I think I would enjoy the late game more if it did not get so consistently micro-heavy. The way wars are fought right now is a total pain and even early game the necessity to go 100% total war for every war gets really old. The AI unit spam and constant backdooring gets ridiculous the more people involved and the larger the conflict and everything always turns into a gigantic hellwar that is decided in the first few months of the war, but drags on like crazy because of the stubborn AI and its ability (and apparent desire) to go into steep debt just to buy more mercs for my doomstacks to murder.

:agreed:

Would be really nice if the late game offered bonuses to Siege Ability, so you're not just sitting forever waiting for Level 8 forts to fall.

Yeah. If we're talking adding late game features I would absolutely love some kind of theater level army management becoming a possibility at some point. Much like how you can now order fleets to blockade this sea zone or whatever, you could just order these armies to occupy these states and form up in case of attack. Would be a big undertaking to program I'm sure, but I'd day 1 buy it.

That was a terrible malformed run-on sentence but I know you guys know what I mean. Being able to declare limited wars of some sort or finding a way (I know it is not easy) to get the AI to understand that I dont want to take 100% warscore worth of provinces would go a long way. Sometimes I go to war for pretty borders or a province of strategic utility.

"Demolish Fort" should be a wargoal or something I can use warscore on.

I should be able to use vassals/client states/protectorates as an area denial system (the new interactions may help with this). I want to have a subject that I do not ask to join my wars and take no tax and they just sit there fat and happy. There would have to be some sort of drawback but vassal armies doing Stupid poo poo also gets really old so I end up praying that they dont go off and die like idiots sending them into a death spiral of buying mercs and going into debt just to do stupid things in a war.

There should be other wargoals I can use to gain power projection (or something) from non-rivals just for dumpstering a country that got involved in one of my hellwars so land or money are not the only things I can take from them (Trade Power is useless because of the way trade works and because it takes a relationship slot).

And like Pitt said, siege ability or something to make the endgame less of a slog. Most wars in the time period were decided by major battles and sieging forts was an ancillary task.

Depends what you're trying to conquer. Poland is a reasonable choice to help counter Austria, or the Iberians to keep your wars one-fronted.

Honestly at the moment the Iberians are so weak that it makes more sense to me to just conquer them. Even the AI does it a lot of the time, though I expect the fort changes in the next patch are going to make the Pyrenees a lot more defensible so this strategy won't work as well. But take out Aragon/Naples early on and you're in a great position to dominate pretty much all of Western Europe. Wait for Castile to start colonizing, drop some colonies nearby, and then beat them up for a bunch of colonial territory and a couple of European provinces. Repeat until dead, then do the same with Portugal. Snipe Italian minors whenever you get a chance. You won't have a very strong colonizing game if you do this, but it's sort of compensated for by the fact that you're stealing all the colonies of two of the three biggest colonizers. If you get lucky in the first war against England you might be able to employ this same strategy against them. Probably puts you in a good position if you want to restore Rome.

It makes perfect sense when you remember that approximately 100% of Europe claims to be the true heirs of Rome, and quite a lot of countries outside does so as well. :v:

Usually people go Holy Roman Empire -> Arabian -> Roman Empire. It just can't be a direct Holy Roman -> Roman tag switch.

How do you go from HRE to Arabian? I was of the understanding that you had to be in the Levantine culture group to form Arabia? I would like to know more about that general strategy. It sounds like a crazy ride!

This is correct, and probably the easiest way to do it though I haven't made a serious effort. I guess you could probably do it by converting to Catholic (via that one Catholic province in Mamelukan Syria) as well. Comedy option: conquer into the steppes first and force convert to Tengri

Grab Napoli since it's their best province and puts in you in a good position to expand into northern Italy. Maybe a couple others if you need it to bring them under the force vassal limit for the next war. Leave the Italian provinces you take as territorial cores (or uncored if you want to live on the edge) and give them back to Naples after you vassalize them.
