Oh god years ago there was this one grognard who whined about rsi or whatever and the company springed for two joystick-like alternative mice

Which he called his "dildos"

But only to the female support staffer

And he'd complain about some problem or other and you'd have to go to his desk for a service call; most people would gently caress off for a coffee while you had to mess around with their machine but not him. He just slid his fat seated rear end back in his chair a little and expected you to go rooting around on your hands and knees under his desk in front of his kneecaps while he watched & sucked the sweat off his upper lip or whatever

Well that's my computer ergonomics related story, gently caress that guy.

this time it's not quite as loving stupid though

they're laying tiles in a pedestrian square, where motor vehicles will only occasionally drive over them (for maintenance etc)

maybe the technology will turn out to be useful after all

oh, my, god. Becky, look at her bitrate.
cars driving over them isn't the part that makes it a stupid idea, literally every single thing about it is the stupid idea.

ugh how are these people still loving around? last time this popped up, I did some envelope calculations and it would cost more than the GDP of the whole country to purchase the glass only for the tiles, not the electronics or grid infrastructure or solar cells, the glass alone. and they've gone and made the technology more complex

1.7 billion solar road cells all individually tweeting that their subscription has expired please click here to renew

Sagebrush
Feb 26, 2012

i think my favorite part of the solar roads idea is that we've somehow solved every issue that is currently preventing us from blanketing the country with solar cells, somehow having the industry to manufacture billions of cells and feed it into the grid from hundreds or thousands of miles away,

and we decide to put them

in places

where we've already built something

and not in like the 10,000 square miles of nevada that contains nothing but sagebrush and mildly radioactive dust

theflyingexecutive
Apr 22, 2007

where should we put the things that make electricity? I got it, on the places where people don't live

hey, my intro to electronics class taught us about leds! let's add them to the road project because wouldn't ya know it those roads have to change function all the time

Synthbuttrange
May 6, 2007

But but it'll only be used for lighting up roads, makes sense right? put the solar panels in the road and its used to power the lights so you can see the road?

mostly it has to do with the state of our infrastructure being in massive disrepair, and then some moron comes along and says he can build roads that pay for themselves
