Wait that video of 1918 is the prologue? Kind of figured they would put that meat grinder mission at the end both chronologically and thematically (you did a bunch of bad rear end stuff but it won't matter when you and everyone is vaporized by artillery). Also I've never paid for any of the DLC for BF3 or BF4 but if they put out a ship combat focused DLC that includes Jutland I'll buy that poo poo up so fast Captain Beans fucked around with this message at 19:44 on Oct 2, 2016 |

Anti-Hero posted:Uhh...I thought it was because the Germans got unfairly hosed at the Treaty of Versailles and it created huge economic hardships and lingering resentment that was easy to be preyed upon by extremists (Hitler). I'm not a historian, but that's the vibe I got from the little I know. Versailles plays a role, but it's actually a rather small one. There was a lot of lingering resentment about Versailles stemming from the Stab in the Back Myth, happily promoted for forces on the political right, which certainly plays a part. But the real economic hardships that finally destabilize the Wiemar Republic stem from the market crash of '29. There's loads of political machinations going on as well, that can be roughly summed up as the far right (including the the aging elected President of Germany, Paul von Hindenburg, effective dictator of the country during the latter portion of WWI) doing whatever they can to keep the socialist out of power, extending all the way to putting their trust in guys like Hitler, because what's the worst that could happen?

I have kind of feeling the confirmed DLC with the French and Russians will be baised around major campaigns involving both of the nations. The Russian one will obviously be the lesser known Brusilov Offensive.

Are there any surviving drawings of battleships made by Willhelm II himself? I had read that they were fantastical designs that would not float if built. If the sketches still exist, send them to immediately.

I hate to break it to you guys, but Nazis were normal people. Normal people do terrible poo poo and get caught up in terrible movements and follow obviously hosed orders. The war in Europe ended 71 years ago and there's plenty of interesting ground to cover on the German/Italian/Japanese (and Axis minors) perspective in media. It's a little late to be saying "too soon."

Russian DLC with action during the revolutionary war could have some excellent options for armored train based modes. There were a few minor warlord type factions that all traveled around in armored trains pillaging wherever they rolled. I'm not sure how you run a guerilla type war when you have armored trains (you would think it would be easy to track down a train) but apparently it was quite a process to defeat these groups. It is kind of ridiculous that 70 years into the future, "Germans" in video games may as well be "Alien Invaders" for not the only the war in which in they did a bad thing, but also another armed conflict 20 years earlier.

Yeah, I'm hoping we'll have a few more light and medium tank models than the ones we saw in the beta. I know there wasn't much tank wise, but I'll take all kinds of whacky old vehicles for variety. Also, I'm down for some early war themed DLC too. Would be nice.

Man, BF1 is 22% off GMG if you have an account. I don't want to encourage the system of preordering, but I've bought all the recent battlefield games (sans hardline) at launch and always enjoyed them. Decisions, decisions.

IceOrb posted:Dedicated server info should be announced this week. Obviously not the most popular take, but I wouldn't mind the absence of servers completely. It was so much easier to get a game in Battlefront where you were able to get a nice variation in maps and modes, even with the low player count. BF4 eventually sucked when the vast majority of servers diluted down into 24/7 shitmaps, mismatched player counts with the game mode, and dumbass settings like vehicle fast spawn and half the weapons banned.

Letting players host their own servers with broad custom settings is great when the population is big enough for there to be servers with good settings, but yeah for some reason a huge number of players want servers with really dumb poo poo like 1000 tickets instant vehicle respawn, or knife-only. And for whatever reason, these people seem to stay around longer than the ones who just want to play a balanced game. Battlefield 2142 revive has been fine since they're still working on getting non-revive-hosted servers working, and the revive servers are just 64-player conquest/titan/assault lines servers, but I saw a request on their forums for a knife-only server. People seriously want to go back to a really janky 10-year old game with awful hit detection for knife servers. Who are these people?

I'm of the opinion that some filters ought to be automatically set and require reasonable difficulty to disable; for example, do not show any servers higher than 100 ping by default, certainly not any over 200, and if you have none under 300 then issue an immediate refund option and disallow multiplayer.

I completely agree with this, as an Australian there are already very few servers I have good ping to, and a month after release they're 100% the worst settings physically possible
