bsg reboot is amazing to the point that the extremely bad two or three episodes every season was supernaturally obligated to include hit like freight trains like here we are on a wonderful ride and OH GOD THIS DOCTOR IS KILLING FARMERS OR SOME poo poo WHAT then back we go to good television enjoy the whiplash

ALL-PRO SEXMAN posted:it really fell apart in the home stretch tho It made sense, even in the end. However, it wasn't a great ending; I was really attached to the characters, but their focus on "characters first, narrative second" in the end was disappointing and kind of a cop out. BSG is still a great show despite the haphazard conclusion. Nearly every aspect of it is just completely superior to films and TV shows.

The problem is that once it became 100% locked in as a pre-existing protomythology they didn't have time to do anything but push the players into their apportioned roles. I really would have liked a less obvious external push for relevance toward the end.

Nichael posted:That's probably true but is there enough difference to actually cause a schism like that to form? Well I did say "if". If a good democratic candidate finds himself in a crowded field and exploits that to overwhelmingly win the soccer mom vote, while several others fight over the inner cities, then we'll maybe see a fracture. Or Those wealthy suburbanites who used to be republicans and are now soft democrats, aren't guaranteed to stay that way. If the GOP can produce a candidate that can drop the racism and social issues then maybe they will come back in to the fold. I suppose that was supposed to be the plan after Romney lost in 2012, and we see how well that turned out.

Edward James Olmos gave a talk at my school about ethnicity in America a while ago and it was amazing. He was introduced as "Commander Adama" and he instantly corrected the guy by saying "It's ADMIRAL. I was promoted!" He got us to join in on a "So say we all!" chant with him, and then talked so long that he had to be kicked off the stage by the school. I think/hope a part of him truly believes he is Admiral Adama.
