Where are the most popular poker tournaments in Vegas? Preferred stakes are around a $200-$500 total entry fee, and I would like to play in something a bit larger scale than the 2-3 table tournaments my local casino has. Will be there middle of October if that matters.

Pretty much every poker room has some daily and weekly tournaments, so if you've got a favorite card room, just give them a call and see what's up. They tend to change their offerings fairly regularly, so I'm not sure what's going on there now, but maybe someone in this thread (or the poker thread) knows.

You'd think I would know this, living in Vegas, but I don't travel at all. I'm thinking of taking a day trip from here to LA and back on Friday or Saturday to pick up some stuff rather than waiting for FedEx Ground to inevitably lose or destroy the package, but since it's a holiday weekend: which way/how bad does the traffic get, and when, on holiday weekends? I'm kinda guessing it gets gnarly going from LA to LV Friday night and the reverse Sunday evening?

Then you'll be in a parking lot all the way to LA.

Going to Vegas for the 2nd time at end of October. One thing I want to do this time is make some bets on some soccer games (EPL and MLS). I've been struggling to find information which sports books do soccer betting these days. Last time I went (2010ish) I didn't see any soccer betting at the sports books I made my NFL bets at. Suggestions (preferably on strip)?

Suggestions (preferably on strip)? Pretty sure the Wynn has MLS betting. Not as sure about the European leagues but you'd think that would almost be more popular. They have good customer service anyway (saved me a grand when I threw away a winning ticket accidentally once) so I say give 'em a quick call to confirm.

Just came from an 11-man, 4-night bachelor party. -MGM Signature - All that walking you to do from MGM proper and the Signature Towers gets old after a while, but taxi and Lyft service from the towers themselves is pretty seamless. I had a 36th floor "penthouse" suite with a balcony and the Strip view was incredible, absolutely gorgeous. -TopGolf - Within walking distance (no, really) from Sig. This is relatively new IIRC, and is really, really fun. Drinks, good bar food, and great for experienced or newbie golfers. -Sapphire - Ho lee poo poo. Get table service at Sapphire if you don't mind throwing down some cash and having an amazing night. Also, a terrible morning if you drank as much as I did. -MJ One - Can't really go wrong with Cirque -- really cool performance, one of my favorites.

I also stayed at the MGM Signature. $10 Lyft/Uber anywhere on/near Strip from the front door with no mass of people? Awesome. Ten minute walk to the MGM Grand casino floor? Awesome. Private pool? Awesome. Kitchenette worth a drat? Awesome.

The Signature pools were pretty chill and good. Our group spent one afternoon hanging in the MGM Lazy River, which was hilarious. People watching at its best (OK, that's still Fremont)

The single most popular on a consistent basis is probably the Friday night at Orleans. 7pm start, $125 entry, and it pulls 140+ entries during the slower times of year. Anything that's $150+ isn't typically a daily tournament. The Venetian has a couple of dailies over $200 but I honestly don't know how many people they get; just because they're offered doesn't mean they fire. You're going to need to look at special events, like the Wynn Fall Classic or Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza.

Any recommendations for late night (after 11PM) shows? I'll be in Vegas this weekend for hockey but we don't really have plans for afterward. In the past we've always stuck with clubs or gambling plus general debauchery but I'm curious about any events that may start late. I'll make sure to pass by one of the ticket booths on the strip but from looking online it seems like most shows are 8 or 10 PM start.

Every year the LA Kings play their final pre-season game(s) at MGM, typically against Colorado or Dallas. Now that Vegas is getting a home team the tradition will stop, but this last one should be a big event and I believe gives the first taste of hockey at the new T-Mobile arena.

I'm thinking about doing a Trip to Vegas that would overlap with Halloween. Is this a good/bad idea? Something like the 27th - 2nd at the Flamingo. This would be my first time to Vegas. Things we'd potential be interested in seeing/doing include: Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon and/or Grand Canyon, A cirque show Absinthe Penn & Teller / other magicians Pinball Museum Lotus of Siam Casino hopping Is learning craps at the Golden Nugget still a thing? This is something I'd like to do as it seems the most fun in terms of gambling, though I still like the occasional spin on the Roulette wheel and some hands of blackjack. We'd most likely be renting a car so that we can see some sites outside of Vegas as mentioned above. Any other suggestions about must sees/must dos? Any special Halloween events that we should go to or anything to definitely avoid? Thanks!

This would be my first time to Vegas. That's a pretty good list of things to do. All casinos will teach you the table games including craps. It's usually in the mornings. You pretty much covered everything for the must sees/dos. Maybe the neon museum, too. The only thing left is drinking enough to gamble a year's salary away in one night. For Cirque shows I am not a Beatles fan bordering on loathing them but loved their show. I can only imagine how much a fan of them would feel about it.

This isn't aimed at you specifically (though it may apply), but I just got back from Vegas and want to recommend the Akhob exhibit. It's an art display by James Turrell, who is known for working with light and space as his medium. I can only describe it as stepping in to a part of 2001 A Space Odyssey, or or that weird Willy Wonka clean room from the original Chocolate Factory. It's almost like being inside an optical illusion; you can't tell where the walls end and the floor begins, which leads to your brain filling in the blanks and distorting reality a bit. It's called a Ganzfeld effect. They give you about 20 minutes in there where you basically just stare at the empty space and experience brief moments of hallucinations as the lights change color, then they pull you back to the entrance where you watch as the room seemingly disappears altogether. Total time is 30 mins. It's part of the Louis Vuitton store at the Crystals shops next to Aria, and is totally free but you need to get a reservation a few weeks in advance. They take groups of up to 6 I'd say it's definitely best with fewer. I went with a full group and it definitely detracted from the experience because the space is small and the effect is way stronger the less stimuli you have. I wouldn't make major plans that revolve around seeing it, but I was staying practically next door so the short time commitment and $0 spent made it pretty great overall as a unique Vegas experience.

If you're interested in the Neon Museum, be sure to buy your tickets on the website a few days before. You can't just show up whenever like a regular museum and the tickets sell out early. I was hoping to check it out when I was in town a few weeks ago but the only tickets left were for the 10 AM tour and no thanks.

This would be my first time to Vegas. We did Vegas for 4 days last week. Stayed off strip at Southpoint for the easy parking. If you plan on going to Hoover, make sure to get there as early as possible. Walked right into the tour with no waiting at about 9:30am on Friday. The line was all the way up the stairs when we got out. Drove to Grand Canyon Village (South Rim). Left at 7:30am and got back at 10pm. Took RT66 on the way there so went a little out of the way. We did stop at the Grand Canyon Caverns, which was cool. Pinball Museum was good, but after a few new barcades have opened up locally in the Seattle area, the machines at the museum seemed a little beat up/rough. The only show we did was Brad Garret. $60/ticket thru one of the discount booths on the strip. Wife wanted to do the Eiffel Tower at Paris but that felt like a waste of money. One thing to add that we strongly considered was the Valley of Fire north of Vegas. The GC trip kinda burnt us out on driving though. We tried to avoid slots and only did some table games. The funnest thing was the Sigma Derby machine at the D on Fremont. Drunks yelling at mechanical horses for actual quarters was the best. Make sure to schedule some pool time also.

Question for those of you who have been to Absinthe: Do you really have to get your tickets from will call early in the day? The website and our tickets make it sound like you can't just show up 10 minutes before, get your tickets and go in, but you had to show up before 5pm that day?

Giovanni0109 posted:Has anyone taken a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon? Is it worth it/not worth it? I did one where they landed on the bottom and we had a champagne picnic. I mean, I thought it was worth it, but I'd never been a helicopter, and it was only my second time ever flying, so I probably would have been excited by anything. It's apparently not the more impressive parts of the Grand Canyon, but coming back over the Strip over the night was definitely cool. Other things I did on your list: Penn and Teller was awesome and the whole reason we went. Two Cirque shows and Ka was much better than Zumanity. The Pinball Hall of Fame was great and the cheapest thing we did.

You definitely get more sens of the scale by helicopter and it saves you a lot of time, but the bend where they touch down is a bit boring. Then again, Grand Canyon is all about size. If you a spectacular view go to Bryce.
