Pizdec posted:As the previous posters said, the ruling party is backpedaling hard, and it's most likely they'll drop the project or try to push through a watered-down version. The ban is political poison - support for PiS is at a new low at 29%, while the two liberal parties have 38% between the both of them. PiS likes to dismiss polls in geenral, but there's no doubt the Great Leader is pissing himself (hah!) behind the scenes at the merest chance of losing power. I love their symbol...

Yeah, the abortion ban was trashed. Even the ruling party voted overwhelmingly against it - out of 234 PiS MPs, 186 of them voted nay. For comparison, just two weeks ago 230 of them voted for pushing the project further down the legislative trail. It's a wonder what 2 points down in the polls do for your personal beliefs. However, the party has already announced that further down the line they will prepare their own bill to establish tougher abortion restrictions (the recent proposal was a citizens' initiative), so see y'all in 6 months I guess? :T

To be fair, they claimed from the beginning that the bill is only getting sent to the committee because they promised not to dismiss any citizens' initiatives without at least getting them into a committee reading (not that it stopped them from insta-trashing the citizens' bill to expand abortion rights later in the same meeting, citing that "having two bills conflicting bills at the same time would be something something something"), and the Prime Minister said no changes to the abortion laws are being discussed, proposed, or planned. The only person I've seen claim PiS is getting back to tightening the restrictions is Krystyna Pawłowicz, who seems to live in her own little world.

The only person I've seen claim PiS is getting back to tightening the restrictions is Krystyna Pawłowicz, who seems to live in her own little world. They are though. Their Senate group is working on a new abortion ban project. It's a "compromise" where only abortion due to genetic defects or fetal damage is banned, leaving just rape and life-endangering conditions as justifiable reasons. The propaganda is already spinning it as a ban on "eugenic abortion". I think they've already hosed up though. They could have pushed this through with only token resistance if they had either done it at the beginning of the year or trashed the Ordo Iuris project. (sidenote: man "Ordo Iuris" is an ominous-sounding name, it's like they know they're the villains) Now people are already angry and organized over the issue, so this proposal will get protested hard too. It's still probably going to happen, but it won't be a victory for PiS in the long run. Guildencrantz fucked around with this message at 11:46 on Oct 7, 2016 |

Hey, there is finally an English article about the craziest Russian story of this week. https://globalvoices.org/2016/10/07/atomweight-mma-fighting-comes-to-chechnya-and-the-local-rulers-children-are-already-title-holders/ quote:Kadyrov's feed is full of posts like this one on September 24, where he boasts about always finding time in his busy schedule to maintain his physique. With such an integral focus on fitness, it comes as no surprise that the long-time head of Russia's Chechen Republic has also instilled these virtues in his children, Eli, Adam, and Akhmad; he sometimes posts about their workout regimens and preparations for competitions. quote:Kadyrov also included a snazzy video montage of children abusing drugs and alcohol, followed by footage of his sons wailing on opponents at the MMA tournament, ending with shots of the boys playing video games and carrying their trophies. The final frame features a simple question: “Drug addition or a healthy lifestyle?

Georgian monks and a child sing to Pope in Aramaic. https://www.facebook.com/OtkroiGruziu/videos/1770517589866681/ I must've listened to it 20 times... And now it sounds to me like the girl sings something like "ljubov moja" which would be Russian I guess. Although I don't know why they would use that language in a Georgian church. Anyway, Russian speakers confirm/deny pls.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Friday announced the creation of peace prize in honor of late socialist leader Hugo Chavez, and said he was awarding it to Russian President Vladimir Putin. There's a difference between giving a prize to someone who hasn't yet done anything, and a giving a prize to someone who has already done a lot of things. Putin is the butcher of Chechnya, Georgia, Ukraine, and Syria; he's been extremely aggressive and provocative in his foreign relationships; made it his priority to increase Russia's military spendings; and renewed with Cold War era saber rattling. I should also mention all the murdered journalists and political opponents. He's incredibly bellicose all around and has a lot of blood on his hands. Giving him a peace prize is a sure fire way to make that peace prize illegitimate. When Obama got the Nobel Prize, it was dumb, and more of a "thank you for not being Bush, please keep not being Bush" gesture than a real award, sure, but Obama did not have blood on his hands then.
