Hatchet Man is a guaranteed crit if it lands, so it's good for killing them. I don't know about the later varieties, but for the regular Metal Slimes, Sleep works on them. Counting Sheep is really good for locking those guys down.

Yeah, plus he's the only guy that never leaves, so he'll be the second highest leveled one eventually. Sir Mervyn coming with no vocations leveled despite being literally The Greatest Warrior God Had is way worse.

suggestions on trees to max first? i haven't really played one of the dqm games with them since dqmj2 but i remember some were required to unlock others down the line for endgame skills.

If you save before going in there, anything is a good way to get tokens, but poker seems the least good and Lucky Panel is the least mindless

The slots are foolproof since you can just mash A until you get a huge jackpot, go to a better machine, then repeat until you get a huge payout at the 300 token slots. All while watching Netflix or something.

Yeah, but you get those without even trying. Knuckle Sandwich ruins most bosses and that's from Martial Artist, and by the time that stops working you have Multifists, Falcon Slash, ect.

This, I'm impressed at how many bosses seemed to be vulnerable to Knuckle Sandwich. It kind of felt like I could count the number of bosses that resisted it on one hand by the end of the game.

Why would any boss resist Knuckle Sandwich in particular? Isn't it just a multiplier on your attack that costs MP.

Knuckle Sandwich can be resisted. Some bosses will always dodge it. It's just how the skill works for whatever reason.

Hell, Knuckle Sandwich is still better than Sword Dance or Multifists because it gets entirely doubled by Oomph as opposed to only the first hit. It's easily the best damage skill in the game if the target is not immune.

As mentioned, Hatchet Man early in the game. Later on, once you get Blade of Ultimate Power (Champion 8 skill), that hits 100% of the time but costs like 20 mp.

No, at least in 6 it's treated as a status ailment for its hit rate. So its base hit rate was something like 100/80/30/0 depending on the resistance each individual enemy had to it. Which kind of makes sense, since straight up double damage is insane when every other skill that comes close to that is a mulitihit one, and only the first hit counts for Oomph. Also in 6 Knuckle Sandwich leveled off pretty hard, like most status ailments.

I read on the Gamefaqs forums that there's a gamebreaking bug you can experience near the end of the game if you take a certain party member into an old cutscene you missed back when you weren't supposed to have them yet.

Don't really know how to properly keep this in spoilers though. After you save the island of Hubble, you're able to revisit it in the present to learn The Great Leveler spell, but the game doesn't expect you to have Maribel in your party if you take the spell back to the Great Wizz and show him. After the cutscene is over, the game tries to reorganize your party but removes Maribel altogether, leaving you permanently missing one party member. This will stick if you save your game, and it makes the game crash near the end of the final boss's dungeon if you don't have a full party of 4. There's no way to fix it.

So keep a back-up save, and make sure you don't overwrite it if you're suddenly missing a party member that should still be following you. :stare:

I wish they just never re-organized the party. It's always annoying and in that instance apparently gamebreaking.

Just barely dodged that bullet since I'd gotten the spell with her in the party due to doing Hubble second but luckily didn't think to go back to the past.

I'm not sure why I never thought to bring The Great Leveller back to him. Was there any hint that this could be something you can do?

I mean, it's not like bosses ever buff themselves in this game anyway, I never ended up using it once in my entire playthrough.

It was obliquely hinted at in the PS1 version because he said something like "it took me a lifetime, if only I had more time..." or something, I think?

Totally unrelated: Where's this free drake slime heart? Just picked some vocations.

I don't really use the Great(er) Leveller but there's something charmingly petty about going back in time to tell a man that the culmination of his life's work wasn't good enough and he needs to step up his game. Like I know that wasn't your character's intent in returning but that's basically how it shakes out.

Kiss the Joycon to Kiss Zelda

One thing I'm liking about the game is the different scenarios in each island. I'm just after beating the boss in the Automaton Stronghold, even though the general gist of every island is "Go here, kill things", the little stories in each one are pretty great. I did lose my MC during the 2nd phase of the fight (RNG :argh:) but overall it was a pretty challenging dungeon in a good way.

Oh, except gently caress that stupid Cannibox.
