It would have been disrespectful not to.

My wife and I actively try to purchase meat from local small farms where the animals do things like see the sky and eat food outside. We only buy the Pasture raised eggs (none of this "cage free really means we opened the door of the cage a few minutes a day" bullshit) and if we can't get local meat, we (usually) go without. Doesn't hurt that the local stuff also tastes waaaaay better. We bought a pork loin roast from a farmer's market from the guy who butchered it "I saw the pig into the world, and I saw him out" and it was divine.

Well you're right on most of that but there's groups of engineers who handle emergent engineering/manufacturing issues and they don't get lost in the paper pushing as much. There are tons of suppliers in the area, might be more up your alley. I think Phillips has a big facility near me for ultrasound and other medical equipment design and testing. Spacelab is another medical equipment company in the area and one of my good friends has worked there for a while too.

I don't mean they have to do it every time or anything, but that they should be mindful of the process that has led to the porkchop or whatever sitting in front of them and be thankful to the animal that gave its life to sustain theirs.

I'd quite like to get involved and find out how it works. I eat fish as I know I can kill them and chop them up (though I don't like doing it!) and because when I stopped I had terrible fish hankerings until I started eating them again. I don't yet (after around 16 years now) miss eating any other meat except for the inconvenience it causes when buying stuff or eating out.

I've gone hunting and slaughtered my own kills to eat along with helping with other people do theres. I also never keep a catch while fishing unless I'm going to for sure eat it. I also spent plenty of time on farms belonging to family members. I'm very aware of where my meat comes from, still gonna eat it without feeling bad in the least. That said, wasting meat does piss me off since something had to die to feed you. Respect that.

Factory farmed beef is different of course and is the basis of claims of resource hungry beef farming is. Out in the sunlight..... yeah well if you have regular rain and ground that can grow grass you can farm animals quite well with low resource requirements.

Kind of takes away the argument that "plants are hard to grow but meat is easy" when you have to grow a bunch of plants for the animals that become meat to eat. In a perfect world all animals raised for slaughter could graze in grassy fields, but that's not the reality of the situation.

Jury Chat: I've been called for jury duty 3 times in my adult life, 2 of the cases were murder trials. The first one I was selected but kicked out in Voir Dire by the defense because my dad had been the county attorney in that county a decade or so before (or so I surmise, because I volunteered the information.) On the second one, I was inches from being selected to see the trial starring Judge Lance Ito (of OJ Simpson fame) but they filled the alternates right before my turn to go up and do the swearing in bit. I was glad because I have a job. Meat Chat: Meat is good.
