Since we're on the topic of post-apocalyptic survival manga maybe with giant insects, I would like to wholeheartedly recommend 7 Seeds even if it isn't seinen. I think the best way to describe it would be survivalist dystopian horror shoujo. It's set after a meteor hits earth, and features a group of seven people attempting to survive in a giant-insect-laden future. It is exceptionally well-written (and has a female main character!), but the shoujo art style takes some getting used to.

Things it features: a lot of wilderness survival, giant cockroaches, flashbacks of how the world went to poo poo, loveable characters (they grow on you...well, most of them), survival game arc, and some very funny moments.

7 Seeds is one of my all-time favorite manga, I can't recommend it enough. The art takes some getting used to, and if someone is just starting I recommend at least hanging in there until the second group is introduced.

I'm kinda curious about where the plot is going, though. IIRC (been a while since I last caught up), most of the inter-Seeds group conflicts have been resolved, and there aren't exactly any more people around to have conflicts with.

The one part of 7 Seeds I always found kind of funny and unrealistic (though not in a way that detracts from the story at all) is how there are like ~30 people wandering around all of Japan and they still manage to repeatedly bump into one another over a relatively short period of time. I imagine that the chances of randomly encountering another person in that situation are extremely low.

The Gamer is currently a death game manhwa. Its also the only good manhwa that isn't straight up porn.

This is not even remotely true. All the stuff I've read by Ha Il-kwon (Annarasumanara, God of Bath, Duty after School) has been very good (which isn't something I can really say for The Gamer; it's entertaining but not exactly good).

In general I find that there's this particular type of deadpan-ish humor that shows up a bunch in Korean manhwa that I find really funny and on average funnier than the humor in Japanese manga (obviously there are exceptions, but I'm talking generally).

By the way, thanks to whoever recommended that Kamisama no Iutoori manga. It is the exact sort of silly death game thing I enjoy. On the same topic, I saw someone else mention Doubt, which I consider the best example of a "Death Game" manga that pretty much fits all the stereotypes to a T (I think I remember it being entertaining, it's been a long time since I read it though).

just because there have been a ton of korean porn webtoons translated lately doesn't mean those are all that comes out of the industry. granted, their printed manwha market is completely dead but they are still in the middle of a webtoon boom.

The best stuff from Ha Il-Kwon (3 level combination, Anna, Duty after school) is far superior to most manga I've read. But drat, I don't know if I like his descent into gag manga. Sperman is a bit too much for me.

My bet is either some weird half-dragon hybrid due to using dragons body as base for resurrection, or some high-level undead due to using the forbidden ritual.

I like that overclocking manga because it is one of very few manga romances that involve the protagonist being interested in the same type of girl and relationship dynamic I tend to prefer in real life (that is, someone who is really aloof with respect to the protagonist and generally more skilled or a higher achiever in some way). Usually man -> woman romances in manga tend to value women based upon more "feminine" characteristics (like their appearance and how kind/caring they are), which makes sense given social norms and gender roles in Japan.

This. It would have been fine had it been like three or four chapters, but it ended up like the thing that wouldn't leave.

e. actually I posted about Genshiken / Genshiken 2 in this very thread back in April:

Mikl posted:

Super short version:

Genshiken is about a bunch of goofballs in a "modern visual culture" (anime, manga, and games) club in college, who are super nerdy and super socially awkward and it's Good and hilarious.

Genshiken Part 2 is about a second bunch of goofballs in the same club after the original group has graduated, but each and every one of them is a stereotype and their interactions are awful and there's a whole twenty-odd chapter arc which is a long, protracted fart of "who will this dude choose to date between these five girls (and a crossdressing dude) who fancy him" and it's Terrible and Bad.

On the other hand, the characters in Spotted Flower are more or less barely disguised alt-universe version of Genshiken and Genshiken Part 2 characters. Like you can easily tell the main character is Madarame, his wife is Saki, the trans mangaka is Hato, and so on. You can read Genshiken and "get" all these references, but for God's sake do not read Part 2.
