Having never played a cod beta, how does it work? Is everything unlocked immediately or do you have to level grind?

Still have to grind, though it's typically accelerated, as I recall.

You know i'm glad that it seems like that the developers of COD are finally starting to share the good ideas/features their games that had been pretty much exclusive to each one for years now. But i'm sad that it's only happening because Blops 3 makes mad cash with supply drops so they are doing it just for the sake of more microtransaction money.
|
# ? Oct 14, 2016 23:34 |

Actually Advanced Warfare got the whole microtransaction thing going. Activision made a shitload of money from that. At launch, BO3's microtransactions were only cosmetic, but they weren't doing so hot so Activision made Treyarch put weapons into supply drops.

But the controversy of the supply drops didn't really start until BLOPS 3 when people started complaining about the supply drop only weapons. So can we talk about how this game kind of plays and feels lovely? The graphic design of it is pretty much terrible and feels like something that came out a decade or more ago and the play is pretty much hardcore mode. I'm kind of hating it right now.

The connections are equal in shittiness to anything I ever had to put up with in MW3. I am winning the war of reaction time on basically everybody- I'm getting first hits and dying first almost every loving time. It's ugly, it's bland, the character designs are lazy robots, the mobility is in molasses, sniper rifles have zero flinch, or recoil, and no problem whatsoever hip firing or quickscoping, the perks and specialist abilities are more boring than Ghosts, ADS movement and aiming is glacial, deployables are poo poo, and the point buy system is back which is terrible for variety. It feels like a step back from AW in every way for a future combat game, from mobility and level design, to art direction. I'll be playing MWR for the entirety of the next year. Not to mention how there seems to be only one really useful trait in Merc's Man-At-Arms. Which I think is either faster ADS or Sleight of Hand... and then suddenly no movement penalties whatsoever after that. That's assuming SMGs have a noticeable movement penalty.

I feel let down. Frontier is a godawful map. 50% spawn zones, 20% sniper alley, 30% featureless tunnel. The rooms in the spawn zones seem designed to facilitate spawntraps since the game doesn't mind dropping players in one when enemies are literally ADSing at both doorways. And they've come up some ingenious new annoyances like corpses flying into the sunset on death, and intangible space windows you're supposed to know you can shoot through. Frost is one of those maps built entirely of blind corners, which echh. Throwback's ok, I guess. I haven't gotten to the later weapons, but the early sandbox is disappointing. Low kill times and tiny maps mean the automatic primaries all kind of run together, and snipers are relegated to quickscoping and dumbass sniper duels across Frontier's main alley. They didn't learn the lesson from Blops 3's shotguns and give them guaranteed minimum damage per shot. Shotgun spread and range are both hilariously crap. They named a shotgun the Banshee, gave it some interesting flavor as being a sonic weapon and... it shoots projectiles that behave exactly like shotgun pellets. Great. Perfect. The semi-auto pistol sucks, but you knew that already because the Treyarch logo doesn't show up when you boot the game. Super weapons are weird; two are just scatterguns that kill slightly faster than normal auto weapons. I haven't used the laser, but I assume it's just another flimsy pretext for projecting a cone of death in front of your character when you hold the trigger. The reward system is... confusing. I've earned 654 points of scrap, but the only time the game said, "Good job, have some scrap," was when I opened my free sadness box. The rest just showed up unannounced. The faction missions are neat little diversions, but it's not entirely clear what you get for leveling up with the faction. Maybe it has something to to with the camouflages that appear in the match rewards??? There are a bunch of nice little touches elsewhere, but they all get canceled out by the fact that the game does not consider you joinable when you're sitting in a lobby waiting for people to join you. I'd swear Ghosts (maybe AW) did the exact same thing, and it never got fixed. Why. JackGeneric fucked around with this message at 08:04 on Oct 15, 2016 |

Assuming you mean the Merc's Super "laser" (read: plasma stream), it has finite range. That's right, finite. It's basically the flamethrower from C&C: Renegade; a super thin stream of non-instant death, that ends about max shotgun range.

Yeah, I think the aim assist does that. It, uh... sticks to it's target/curves toward enemies, for lack of a better description. Riot shield is garbage. Bullets go right through.

I think Infinite Warfare is okay, but it just feels "off" compared to BO3. A few assorted thoughts: It's clear that IW tried to slow the game down to attempt to appeal to traditional CoD fans. Boosting has more weight than in BO3, and there's no Fast Hands perk to reduce sprint-out time. But boosting remains extremely powerful, heck, maybe even more powerful than in BO3. I've been boosting everywhere, mostly because being on the ground feels so slow. And this attempt to slow down the game is negated by the killhouse maps. While I wish BO3 played at a slower pace, I definitely prefer BO3's movement. And Titanfall 2 makes this game feel like molasses. Weapon balance feels heavily tilted towards the SMGs mostly because the ARs I've tried aren't that much better at range. The KBAR is one of the two weapons I've really been using, but it's only a bit better at mid-range than an SMG and you need Quickdraw + Stock. Shotguns are worthless. Snipers are more of a problem than in BO3 because IW gave aim assist back to all snipers, there is minimal to zero flinch on snipers, and they gave the snipers quickdraw. BO3 did a good job at making sure most weapons were viable, and I just don't think that's the case so far in IW. Miscellaneous: spawn logic is the complete opposite of BO3 where you can spawn trap people. Also you spawn off your teammates in a way that feels like Battlefield, not like CoD. And hit detection is incredibly consistent. Unfortunately my PS4 ate the game where I had a 20+ kill streak on Frost where you can see the spawn system at work, so this will have to do. Also the motion blur is nowhere near this bad in actual gameplay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r6qfKdAgig

Does any kind soul have an EU code spare? I tried all the ones in the thread but they appear to be all taken. I've not played a CoD since BO1 and want to try it since they hate PC betas. I've read a lot of stuff that it plays identically to BO3 but that was never cheap enough on steam for me to impulse buy it. e: nvm I thought you had to redeem it on the psn store like a sensible person would think Tried them in the proper place and they're invalid. Are they region locked? Sultan Tarquin fucked around with this message at 19:19 on Oct 15, 2016 |

If the code is 4-5-4 characters, it is redeemed on the COD website, while if it's 4-4-4 characters, it's for PSN. PSN codes are always region locked because of how PSN is designed (three different Playstation Stores for Americas, EU+ME+AUS+NZ, rest of Asia). COD website keys are not region locked, the website lets you pick a region after you redeem it.

Do not buy this on PC, Ghost and AW were abysmal ports. Black ops 3 fixed things a little with proper dedicated servers and PC betas, CoD:IW will not be a good port and I can garantee it. Already has ton of lag problem on consoles, I shudder to think how it will be on pc.
