The main complaint is that this type of fanservice is intended for a demographic (male otaku) that she doesn't belong to. Which is true, but "this is tailored for people who aren't me" isn't much of a critique, it's the second line of a marketing promo. Same writer tied in with the Anime Feminist site, which is part run (?) by Amelia Cook who exemplifies that issue ("D-Greyman is shonen anime! Totally not for fujoshi!" arguements that completely ignore the actual demographic and a "What do you mean Shonen Maid looks like BL? There's no actual dick-in-rear end stuff so it's totally sweet and innocent" rant) and reminds you that the "professional" in "professional anime journalist" just means "got some money for it" rather than being a mark of quality. As for Keijo!!!!!!!! there's something about it that reminds me of Yawara! though I can't clearly define what, but that's enough to keep me watching (and perhaps reading the manga when I finally clear out my backlog, including the last 10 or so books of Yawaraa!)

I'm sure there are people who watch Keijo and get all hot and bothered, but for me the appeal is entirely in the fact that it's one of the most brazenly, ridiculously stupid concepts I've ever seen. Within the first few minutes of the second episode there's an action scene where clashing boobs and butts cause a gigantic energy blast, followed shortly by a training montage that includes "butt walks", which literally involves somehow moving around with just your gluteus maximus. It reads to me more like a parody of fan service; in contrast, the absurdly large-breasted moe character in Occultic;Nine is a genuine attempt at titillation. I am glad I do not understand Japanese. I don't think I could take it if I had to listen to all that dialogue spoken in English. Although I wouldn't mind having the wrestling announcer from Ren & Stimpy call out the move names. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VWC9uqHBqA

Show is fun, I was worried it would be stupid but it manages to be fun, so even if it is stupid on some level I don't have to care. I like that there was actually "something" to it though, like someone sat down and thought this out carefully and I feel like there's a certain internal consistency to it despite some Dragonball shenanigans happening. The whole training and beach ball wind thing works for me. Also there is something very similar to the Butt Walk in Judo warm up exercises, they aren't making it up.

There's a whole ton of world-building and thought put into the sport and how to get into the sport. It is wacky shounen extreme sports, but it's good. The anime skips ahead a whole bunch of chapters and leaves out how the heroine decides to go into butts instead of gymnastics.

i like this show's spirit. it reminds me a lot of prison school actually and I really had a blast with that one. i don't actually care about the implications or whatever somebody on kotaku says, because at the end of the day it is a hot-blooded sports fighting anime where they use butts instead of fists, and this puts a smile on my face, which in the end is really what life is about

Basically everything Keijo!!!!!!! does is to serve the twin goals of T&A shots and being a really good sports show Like the beach ball juggling is obviously so that they can get lots of butt shots, but we also get a pretty heartwarming scene about bringing someone out of their shell https://a.pomf.cat/dngzwv.webm also this scene has Meaningful Looks and hands moving close to the "camera" two things that I rate Very Good

It's a shame how the anime neglects the delinquent mom but then again I can say the same about the manga

Eh, having just recently read it, I thought that the first episode was pretty clear on why she did. Why Miyaka went into jugs instead of judo, though, is probably something that could have been better portrayed.

I came around on Keijo!!!!!!! after Nozomi did an rear end Kamehameha in the second episode, due to the aforementioned sincerity. This show is super genuine about... whatever it is that it's doing. It's girls using their tits and asses to conduct ridiculous anime battles, and is not trying to hide anything at all. In comparison, Scorching Ping Pong girls somehow feels way grosser because of the way the animators specifically focus on girls getting so sweat-drenched that their clothes turn transparent, and all the blushing and giggling makes the whole thing seem like a weird metaphor for sex. It's like they did the "subliminal frames of porn" thing from fight club into the narrative of a slice of life sports anime.
