I'd take a "Beware of Swan" sign far more seriously than most "Beware of Dog" signs

Malachite_Dragon posted:and invest in earpugs. Siameses are -y little bastards. When I got my cat the lady doing the adoption thing was like "Oh he's a really vocal little guy!" and for like a week, not a peep. Years later I get worried if I don't hear him meowing before I'm even at the door to my place. He watches from the window and the second he sees or hears anyone familiar he goes nuts.

Kavak posted:Welp it's settled, they have to be named Oingo and Boingo Sadly the momma cat already knows her name, which is "Happy" (she's growling a lot, not the perfect name for her, but perhaps she will live up to it later ).The little one's named Marvin. Don't know if I keep it or not. He and his siblings where named after Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy characters. They are Balines which are supposed to be a little bit quieter, but they like to speak to another in chirps and meows nonetheless. But I'm accustomed to my parents' deaf cat so I'm not easily bothered by very loud meowing and even screaming. Minister of Chance has a new favorite as of 17:05 on Oct 17, 2016 |

Kwyndig posted:Actually Siam points are color sensitive, they change based on the body heat of the cat, so if they stay indoors they'll probably normalize to the same color over time. That's not the way they're heat-sensitive. The two cats are genetically different colours - Mum looks like a lilac-point and the kitten looks like a chocolate-point. (Or they could be blue- and seal-points respectively - it's not super easy to tell from the picture. Or the mum could be lilac and her kitten could be seal.) It depends on their ambient temperature. Colourpoint kittens are born nearly white because they've been in the womb for nine weeks, where it's very warm. Their points darken because those are the coldest parts of the cat. If the entire cat gets cold (if it's in a cold climate, or as it ages) the colour of the body will get darker - but only to the colour of the cat's points (probably not quite to that extent, but the contrast between body and point colour will lessen). So if Mum lives in a cold climate for an extended period, she'll never get any darker than the colour her muzzle is right now. The kitten, however, could potentially end up quite dark all over once he grows up and if he stays cold. However, if one of them needed a bandage over a body part for an extended period, then the new growth of fur would come in much lighter. But I have to say the kitten DOES look like a Marvin! Even if he's not a paranoid android.
