In the following months, engineers started leaving. Some chose to quit amid doubts over job security and skepticism that an Apple car product would ever come to market. Others were cut. In August, a first wave of employees was let go, followed by a second round in September.

More than 120 software engineers working on a car operating system and testing procedures were cut. Several hundred hardware engineers working on car chassis, suspensions, and undercarriages also left, the people said. The New York Times reported in September that Apple had cut dozens of employees from Titan.

John Wright, a veteran Apple manager who led the software teams, has left the project, according to people familiar with the matter. Dan Dodge, creator of BlackBerry Ltd.’s QNX car software, took a larger role developing Apple’s auto platform architecture, some of those people said.

Remaining software engineers are working on autonomous programs, vision sensors, and simulators for testing the platform in real-world environments. The team also has regulatory specialists to navigate the heavily regulated auto industry, one of the people said.

fully reading that bloomberg article makes me think apples ultimate goal is to buy tesla a couple of years down the road if they decide they want to get involved in building electric/self-driving vehicles

the closest you'll ever get is for the watch to display a reading taken by a device strapped someone else on your body where you can comfortably have a small needle inserted all day.

which is still great but not Silicon Valley VC erection-inspiring.

agreed. sometimes it decides that you mean to swipe over to the media side when you want to change brightness and you just can't change its mind without dismissing the dock and bringing it back. not an issue in ios9 because there was no option to swipe to another screen.

i'm going to be charitable and assume that the only reason why apple even had a self driving car project started was to appease some stupid shareholder demands until they lost interest and squirreled onto the next hot thing (iot most likely)

not even i think tim is dumb enough to try to get into the car business in earnest

why would they do this?

is this one of those "they need to lose money, for tax purposes" things? because tesla is already a proven failure

nah better tech already exists. met a woman who imported a machine that is like a patch like thing and it lasts a few days but blood glucose levels can be read as often as wanted in that period. certainly wasn't cheap tho (was using it for young girl type 1)

I think they made an honest effort at seeing if they could make a car but once they got into it realized it wouldn't be worth it and canceled it, the only difference is that apple is one of the few companies that doesn't accompany their research projects with a full pr campaign

it used to be you'd never have even heard about it but nobody's afraid of leaking apple biz any more

all you need to do to "solve" tv is the exact opposite of what every content provider and reseller wants and put all the shows a customer wants in a consistent, easy to use interface where the company that made each show is irrelevant

so technically it's trivial, even easier than what we have now but from a business standpoint if bravo can't show you real housewives ads on or around top chef it's never gonna happen

actually ar is very good because it can be made of small static assets so it can be beamed wirelessly from a controller to a lighweight pair of glasses that only need to do an okay job of inside out tracking to place a static HUD and maybe a window somewhere in space, and since you don't expect it to be animated and it only occupies a fraction of your fov it can be low fps without making you puke

given jony ive's "not retired, but not running the industrial design department except in a very broad sense" thing, he's probably wanting to design other things, but tim needs to keep him on the payroll so they let him design a car.

and then jony's ego demanded that apple put significant resources into it.

sort of like how jony wanted to design a watch, so apple ran with it.

that isn't a valid SSN issued for 1955. before 1965 only odd numbers between 01 and 09 and even numbers between 10 to 98 were assigned to the group number. 551-23-xxxx would have been issued in CA in 1973. so unless he waited until he was 18 to register for a ssn (which i guess is possible?)
