GOAT has a new album called Requiem and it's super good. They are a swedish psych rock jam band with world music / afropunk influence. Here are two sample tracks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlQvD1B0U0g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDRB19_3DRk If you like this, I have great news for you!: They have two older albums that are just as good! They're also amazing live! And the spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/album/0ZgJAo3ZhHu1SyxP5LDHn8 Polo-Rican fucked around with this message at 19:18 on Oct 21, 2016 |

So the new St. Lenox album, Ten Hymns from my American Gothic, is floating around. This guy is really good, and this album is absolutely fantastic. Not sure how to describe him but he is certainly unique and wonderful. Here's a song from the new album: Thurgood Marshall And here's an old good song: The Greyhound Bus Song

John K. Samson has a new album out. It's pretty much what you would expect, and it contains more Virtute songs and a kind of follow up to 'When I write my master's thesis'. http://www.cbcmusic.ca/posts/12845/first-play-john-k-samson-winter-wheat-track-guide Other Winnipeg group Royal Canoe also has a new album out. Seems like they're using even more loops and layers in their songs. They're on tour now and just got their trailer stolen with all the gear in it. Hopefully they can get it back and keep the tour going. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmXfUH7XG5w

Also I agree, the encore was just amazing, did they end your show with Lower Your Eyelids to Die with the Sun? By far my #1 M83 song, I was on cloud nine when I heard the opening notes to it.

The more I listen to Phantograms III, the more I am liking it. I still think the singles they release earlier like YDGMHA and Blues are bad, but the rest of it has really grown on me. Still a bit early for end of the year talk, but any suggestions so far? This year has been a bit short on albums for me, the only one's I have noted down are: LY2D - Tegan and Sara The Big Fit - Skating Polly YUM - YUM (local Detroit band)

I'm fairly pedestrian but my AOTY is caught between Wildflower and Moon Shaped Pool. I think I'm leaning toward Wildflower. Car Seat Headrest, Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam and maybe How To Be A Human Being by Glass Animals would fill out my top 5, though I'm sure there's a ton of poo poo I'm forgetting. Personal favs that aren't AOTY quality include Miike Snow's iii, Phantogram's Three and M83's Junk

I saw Bon Iver in San Diego a week and a half ago and I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in the show. I thought that looking back I would realize that I missed something but instead my memory solidified the mediocrity of the performance. First a positive, the stage design and production were great. The lights on each 'stage' and the projected backgrounds added to the music and was really impressive. The thing that dragged the performance down was the lack of musicianship that was happening on stage per performer. There were 6 - 10 people on stage during any given song (the sax section would come and go). At least half of those people would be sitting there doing nothing or playing with a nob or a laptop. I get that the music has an electronic component to it but I feel like the amount of performers could be reduced and it would have added to the overall show. For example, there were two percussionists. When I saw both drum sets I was excited as this is usually the sign of a high energy performance. Instead the two drummers rarely played at the same time and often one percussionist would be idle or looking at a computer. Most of the problem is that they played the new album in it's entirety. I like the new album but I don't think it translates well to a live performance. It seemed like most of the melody's were samples with the band contributing the rhythm. This works great for the album but it doesn't translate to the stage well. When they were finished with the new album they played a couple of songs off of 'Bon Iver' which were great compared to the previous offerings and Justin Vernon performed 'Skinny love' for the encore which was absolutely fantastic. tl;dr The new album isn't good live.

I saw a singer tonight named Låpsley. Somewhat similar to Adele in that she has extremely strong vocals, but she is a bit more electronic. Worth checking.

Specifically it’s about how my main coping mechanism was to keep myself constantly drunk in the blistering heat of Amarante while being failed by a largely terrible international football tournament. Sounds about right.
