I think it's a fine line, going conventional with a matching sock would look weaker than the color break from his skin tone, but you also don't want to get goofy with it. Maybe even a similarly colored sock, just to get rid of the imo weird effect of being able to see his tarsal bones.

the issue is that the orange in the sweater clashes with all the colors that would be an effective sock (burgundy [would be great], maybe salmon) e: maybe you could pull off a pale yellow, but it'd also make it look like you were pissing down your pant leg so idk
