euphronius posted:If saric is good which I think he may be and the Lakers pick is good they flopped in no drafts. If Hinkie had drafted any presently good players with his myriad of high firsts (Noel, MCW, Saric, and Embiid have played like a combined season for the sixers) they wouldn't have been bad enough to draft high enough to get Okafor or Simmons. I will say that Hinkie was very good at turning his gently caress ups into future value.

Apologies for the derail, thread. Desiigner was more deserving of an ejection than the fat man. Fat man was having fun.

From a recent SI article about Robert Swift as a rookie: The first time he guards Tim Duncan, Swift pushes up on him on the block, trying to impress him. “Nah, nah, don’t do that,” Duncan says. Swift is surprised. Duncan never talks to opponents. And yet... “The ball’s going to swing to the other side, get position,” Duncan continues. The ball swings. Swift follows orders, shuffling his feet across the lane, staying behind Duncan. “No, further up,” Duncan says. Swift takes a half-step. “No, a little higher, don’t let me duck in on you.” Swift complies. “All right, now come back,” Duncan says, moving across the lane. “The ball’s about to be swung back, but it’s not coming to me this time so don’t worry about it. But now you know how to play it.” With that, Duncan plays hard the rest of the game, but the moment sticks with Swift. He hopes to be that kind of veteran some day. http://www.si.com/nba/2016/09/21/robert-swift-nba-drug-addiction-thunder-sonics

I think tanking is a legitimate and good strategy; I like hinkie but I think he took it to an extreme that wasn't good. You need some vets to help get the young player adjusted to the NBA lifestyle.

They had vets they had no point guards. That's how you tank. Have no point guard in the NBA.

if 6ers paid jeremy lin or some1 to run their offence last year instead of literal sub-d-league players they wouldve been extremely bad but in an acceptable way but then theyd be like 10% less likely to have ben simmons instead of brandon ingram so it was a foregone conclusion (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

So apparently the Wade stat is that he's been leading the league in 3 point% if you go back to the start of last season's playoffs. Butler and Wade were 4/6 on 3's each. Yeah.

euphronius posted:If saric is good which I think he may be and the Lakers pick is good they flopped in no drafts. Noel is a bit disappointing but it was a really bad draft and getting 2 high first round picks for Jrue was still an amazing deal. Any good GM would've made almost the exact same trades Hinkie did and drafted the exact same players. The only difference is that they would've focused more on PR. Also the moral of the story isn't "you have to tank to win" its "if the previous GM traded away all of your assets and your lineup is Jrue/Evan Turner/Swaggy P/Thad Young/Spencer Hawes, you have to tank to win"
