Its not sour grapes. Its why you literally never see anyone working construction wearing patagonia or a logger wearing arcteryx. I once bought a nice fleece jacket from REI, it was about 100$ and the cut in the arms was a little too thin. Started falling apart after a few backpacking trips so now its my dog-walking fleece. Sure I can get it warrantied and replaced but I don't feel like wearing it when the fleece I got from some work wear place was 30$ and beats it hands down in comfort and warmth.

For what it's worth, here in Scandinavia, where winters can be both very cold and wet, there's Fristads, which is like one of the most common workwear brands up here, and they are definitely up there in price with the big outdoor brands, with $300+ jackets:

https://www.specificworkwear.com/collections/fristads-kansas-by-specific-workwear?sort_by=price-descending

Helly Hansen also produce a line of workwear that uses the same material as their sports stuff, and is a bit cheaper. And yes, they are very popular too, especially if your boss is too much of a cheapskate to buy you Fristads.

Jacket chat: I bought a denim vest so I've got something to wear in summer when it's too warm to wear a proper jacket. I'm looking forward to putting patches and studs on it as I haven't made a battle jacket in, like, ten years.

Registers literally won't process a liquor transaction by UPC in the places I've been with restrictions on times but sales in supermarkets, when sales are restricted

The funniest thing to me is seeing this on Sundays if I go to Mitsuwa up in New Jersey.

It's funny because it's not booze they rope off, it's any and all appliances. I have no idea how that law exists or still gets enforced, but then again this is a state that won't even let you pump your own gas.

I think it's still car dealers by me. I seem to remember the appliance store thing, but it's been a long time since I've noticed and I'm pretty sure it's not a thing anymore.

In NC the state government is the only entity that can sell bottled liquor, via ABC stores, which dont open on Sunday. Restaurants have to wait until noon to serve alcohol.

Well, not my clothes, since I work at a university, but yeah, construction workers usually get workwear from their employers. It's pretty common in certain trades - it obviously depends on your employment contract, but most often if you are required to wear things other than "normal" clothes or suits, you either get it from your employer or receive an allowance for it. Back in the days when I worked retail we were issued uniform shirts and jumpers, but also got something like $120 a year as shoes + trousers allowance.

Wait - shouldn't you have told your boss to go gently caress off with his free company jacket (or at least deduct the cost from your paycheck) because you work for a living and accepting a handout like that would severely conflict with your conservative ethos?

Anything you get for free intrinsically fucks over the person who gave it to him, seeing as the minute he gets it he's going to wipe his rear end with it. So that's technically sticking it to the man

Ahhh dude, I did not need to see that. Like, I never want to live somewhere where I will need something like this, but god damm do I loving want that coat.

Also this fucker is dope as gently caress and tbh I could stand to be a little more fire-resistant these days.

Also the legit reason to not wear camping poo poo to construction sites is paint, which is heartbreaking and will kill breathability. Otherwise I suspect is it a combo of 1) Guys not knowing/believing how comfortable this poo poo is, and 2) not being able to afford it. Construction work isn't always super lucrative and you very much do see the more supervisory guys wearing sport stuff. Being in MD I used to see a ton of UnderArmor stuff on sites, which kinda bridges the gap between sport/workwear.

In actual purchase chat, I bought these bad boys;
