If you get Mulholland Drive, I would love an overview.

A person has a dream. They are startled awake by a nightmare. They go back to sleep and the dream is like the first dream, except that things are slightly different now.

The dream is Hollywood. What does it mean? I don't know. I think that things are what they are and what you feel is what it means.

actor Naomi Watts presuicide fantasy to absolve her of the guilt/shame for failing in Hollywood and trying to kill her lover. Only the beginning and end "really happened"

Although I do feel like lynch probably reedited it into "it's just a dream!" because the pilot was rejected so he couldn't really go down the path he intended leaving a bunch of poo poo unexplained (but on the other hand, it's Lynch)

I want more directors cooking, just an entire series of directors making food and talking about it and shooting it in their style

Like, I know we have this and Robert Rodriguez so far, but dammit, I want more. Gimme a Dogme 95 breakfast from Von Trier or a Cronenbergian lunch, or I dunno

The David Lynch formula:

1- Introduce strange poo poo
2- Introduce clues
3- Make sure the clues can't add up
4- Profit as film critics and viewers argue about the meaning citing clues to an unsolvable puzzle

Are you kidding? Michael Bay knows where the fuckin' money is! He's no longer Mr. America military guy; he'd clearly be ordering Chinese, and use the whole spot to say how much he's always loved Chinese food.

ive never seen elephant man or straight story even though lynch is one of my favorite directors just because they don't really seem to be very "lynch" movies though they're still supposed to be good. worth checking out anyways?

edit:

on another point, Inland Empire is lynchs worst by a long shot (besides those two which I can't comment as I haven't seen) and I have doubts anyone that thinks it's wild at heart ever managed to sit through all of IE

The clues add up, but you have to work for them.

I like movies that leave stuff to the imagination instead of making everything overtly obvious for the lowest common denominator. Lynch is good at making films that are mysterious and ask more questions than answering them.

That's also what makes the films of Kubrick, Malick, and Herzog hold up so well.

I saw Elephant Man a loooong time ago, and I remember it being fairly oddly filmed(and I quite liked it), so you might find it pretty Lynchian. As for The Straight Story, it's a very simple, straightforward plot, but Lynch adds just a pinch of weirdness to it so it doesn't feel like some Hallmark channel dreck.

Watched Wild At Heart a buncha times, had an ex that loved it so we'd watch it in bed, take a shitload of drugs and bang liked Viagra'd rabbits. Good times, bizarre movie.

I gotta check out Inland Empire, never seen it.

Inland Empire basically has very little plot other than what is written, 'A Woman in Trouble', aside from that it's just emotional vignettes literally designed to confound.

It's definitely Lynch's most experimental movie and basically the only one where he's really pulled out all the stops and let the crazy take over.

It's about the journey and the experience and not necessarily the destination.

Just checked out this moron's post history and get this: he posts almost exclusively in the football subforum. Hardly surprising that someone who legitimately enjoys professional sports wouldn't appreciate the cerebral ambiguity of David Lynch.
