Washington Post Letters posted:

What has gone wrong with “Mark Trail” and “Judge Parker”? For some reason, their creators must have decided that they were too dull and predictable. They have become bizarre parodies of themselves. Both comic strips are suddenly full of gratuitous violence, unlikely coincidences and silly, complicated plots and action worthy of a third-rate summer movie aimed at bored juveniles.

Please get them back on some kind of reasonable track or drop them. If they are supposed to be more stimulating, they have way overshot the mark and become uncomfortably ridiculous. Their current direction is absurd, annoying and patronizing.

I don't know how someone can think Judge Parker and Mark Trail are comparable, or that the former is anything less than great at the moment, but I guess I also don't know why someone would think WaPo has direct control over King Features' strips.

Pluggers don't need newfangled things in their funnies like "plot development" or "character growth."

(Which feels really weird because when you look at these strips in their classic heyday of the mid-20th century, there was plenty of that going on.)

Sandwich board would have been better. By the way jock is looking pretty handsome there. Someone points out he likes to flirt with girls, but that is nothing bad. They are not dating, so being careful not to do that around Luann is not that bad of a thing. Of course if he liked boys then I guess he would be interested in Emo’s butt (lol). I mean in a biblical way. OMG maybe I better shut up while maybe I am still ahead. (lol). I think though that the idea of Luann possibly being with this Jock might not be that bad of an idea after all.

It’s a fact of life that anywhere that Gunther is, is an “awkward place”, simply by virtue of his being there. There’s no need for you to be there too, Bernice. As for Piro, since you acknowledge that he’s not interested in you, why are you still wearing his scarf? Regrets at what never happened, or do you just share his taste in neck warmers? And the “C” in psych shows that you really don’t understand people nearly so well as you think, as pretty much everything you’ve done in the last 2 years has already demonstrated.
