I have a Korean friend from ages ago and we talk only about 5-6 times per year the past few years. Every single time I ask her how she is or what she's doing she will answer with learning some sort of trade acceptable for a women so she can try to emigrate to the US. She's been to barber school, nail school, make-up school, salon school, and a few other things on top of it. She's realistic about it not being the best of choices for work, but she would rather get out of Korea than get married and raise kids there.
We talked a lot about it back in the day and I recommended Korea Town in LA and she's going there soon to check it out. She hates her life in SK and she's convinced that Korean-Americans have the same tastes in fake plastic women that men in Korea have, so she's all woe and doom about never finding a husband even if she stays permanently in the US.

Anyways keep posting content its fun to relive vicariously without having to dwell on the negatives that come with being a single guy in asia who cant manage a long term relationship.

I had a student who was basically like this. Impeccable English, wanted to be a flight attendant (lol don't they all), failed through all the korean airlines, then all the asian ones, then even like qatar air. Decided to try air traffic controlling, went back to school, ran put of money, worked in a few bars, did phone customer service, and is now trying to get certified as a "dispatcher" whatever that means, I didn't ask her to explain. She's never bitched about wanting to leave korea, because all her family is there, but pretty much accepts that her life is going to be lovely until she dies.

China has a kind of "general ID" that doesn't serve a specific purpose like a driver's licence or health card would. It's kind of used like a passport within the country. Can't buy tickets without one. It's population control.

dude, you have no idea how much koreans gobble up outrageous rumors. when two girls got run over by a tank several years ago, people were sure that the americans had run them over, backed up over them, run them over again, then spit on their bodies before driving away to celebrate with some japanese food (the evilest of foods).

This made me laugh how most of the scandal evidence was due to how she left her smartphone behind in a old office but didn't set it up with any security

quote:

The major breakthrough occurred on October 24, when a cable TV network JTBC discovered a Galaxy Tab belonging to Choi Soon-sil in the office that she abandoned. The tablet was the Pandora's Box--it had the presidential speeches with Choi's markups, presidential briefs for cabinet meetings, appointment information for presidential aides, chat messages with presidential aides, the president's vacation schedule, draft designs for commemorative stamps featuring the president, and much, much more. The discovery of the tablet was worthy of "World's Dumbest Criminals"--the tablet was simply left behind in Choi's office with no encryption, and the files were available for anyone to open. And just in case Choi Soon-sil denied ownership of the tablet, its image gallery contained her selfie.

It's amazing how rumors and conspiracy theories get going when uncritical acceptance of anything said by authority figures is encouraged in a culture.

The cool part is how that interacts with the fact that so many people in China and Korea, correctly, distrust their government and assume it's constantly full of poo poo. Then whoever can make themselves an authority can start all kinds of rumors really easily, especially if they're about how the government is lying. Imagine if Alex Jones was believed by oh... 70%+ of the American public and you'll have an idea.

Ummm.... excuse me. It was. Don't downplay their deaths just because you can't believe reality!
You foreigners are so stubborn.
------

This woman is a God-damned doctor and I was trying to ask questions about my food poisoning and she's throwing zingers at me:

She kept asking a lot of questions about my little brother so I sent her a photo of him when was healthy and she replied with a pic of her butt in the clinic on the doctors chair/table (those padded titly chair table things with the roll of paper over them). She's in her forties and in good shape and she kept bugging about a home visit. She was trying to say she only likes sex once per month, but the woman is a friggin pervert and I could feel the pent up everything starting to come out when the dumb foreigner was asking about his illness. She gave me the basic advice about drinking hot water and other generic words of wisdom about caring for a fever, and spent the rest of the time bugging me about my dick.
I was like ""Are you a real doctor? Who are you?" and she sent me the name of the clinic and it really is a small clinic and pharmacy and she is the evening doctor there and said she's bored off her rear end every night. She said when I am healthy and not in worm-zone she wants to come give me a "check up," but it has to be late at night because everyone in the area knows her or comes to her clinic and she doesn't want people to see her.

That's what I get for using Wechat to try to talk to a doctor. I just wanted to know if the antibiotic I am on is the correct one. I never did find out and Google isn't much help. I'll keep y'all updated.

Oh, I know. That's why I always refuse to go to a doctor when I get some illness. It's generally one or two reoccurring problems (like food poisoning), so I don't really need anyone to tell me to take an antibiotic or something because WebMD has me covered. Even if I see a pharmacist, they prescribe something completely unrelated because saying "I don't know" is triple shameful for those people.

But this doctor's whole medicine for me is squatting on me when I recover.

My Ex-GFs mom got her pharmacy certificate online. She bought a book on Taobao and then took the exam. It's cool that people are at least forced to learn a little something, but it's still not much better. It's one step in the way of them getting a job, and nobody has time for that bullshit when it comes to money.

I only have the numbers for Western Europe but here's one thing in the realm of 65-70% of food poisoned my cases are caused by norovirus. You'd be better off laying off of whatever pills you're taking and eating some yogurt, provided you aren't terribly lactose intolerant.
