Yeah, I had another Facebook argument with the Bernie-to-Trump guy, and his argument eventually boiled down to saying "Look at all these scandals and emails! There has to be something there, she's totally corrupt," versus me saying "Prove it; 'where there's smoke there's fire' isn't a good argument when she's had enemies trying to smear her for longer than I've been alive." He never provided proof but likewise wasn't convinced by either my pointing out that most of the "scandals" are really nothing nor that Trump is provably corrupt, so about the only thing accomplished there was me putting up long pro-Hillary arguments my relatives may stumble upon if I don't preemptively block them or something for a while.
All of these "corruption" charges leave me emotionally rather unmoved because from what I can tell, there are two options:
1. Clinton does what she does because she thinks it's right
2. Clinton does what she does because somebody pays her to

So at worst - if 2 is true - this means somebody could in the future pay her to start doing abhorrent stuff. However, Trump is already doing abhorrent stuff seemingly out of his own free mind.

Ayotte has been up consistently for the last month with the exception of UNH polls. Unless Hillary wins the state by 6-7, Ayotte will keep her seat.

The real PC culture is you can't offend white people generally and usually white conservatives. BLM's message is merely "hey maybe stop killing us so much police and then letting them get away with it justice system?" and that is enough to get even white moderates to start asking for them to be more polite.

White fragility is a hell of a thing. These people view anything other than total submission to their will as a full scale attack on their way of life.

In some ways, you can't blame them. Option 2 is realizing that they're assholes and mediocre people at best who coasted by on racial privilege and still managed to gently caress up their pathetic lives.

To be fair, if you exclude trackers, polls are bouncing between a close win and a big win for Clinton. There's no bouncing towards a tie or Trump win, for the most part. So technically a 100% win chance seems fair to me. Winning at 270 is the same as winning at 538 after all.

Starbucks basically completely flopped in Australia due to it being poo poo coffee. Maybe it has some cultural significance in the states though? I guess if you don't have good alternatives you take what you get.

Well it's not 100% certain, but I would say that the point here that concerns we mortals is "What are the odds that all the polls are really loving wrong?"

Mr. Wang thinks it's less than 1%, Shook Nate put it at 30%, other people are in between.

I see there are some people who basically experience it as the downfall of Civilization when somebody makes a joke about "White people" or features a non-European civilization in Civ 6 or whatever. But there's also a huge culture built on White self irony. I know that because I guess I have to admit it's one of my favourite forms of culture. See e.g. Louis Ck, or stuffwhitepeoplelike.com. So there's a huge market for this, and I'd actually guess the market is mostly white.
Similarly, it's not like e.g. David Chappelle couldn't pull a mixed audience.

I'm not saying I doubt what you're saying, I'm just not sure what exactly you mean.

Hillary's chance to win in the PEC model is 98% in the random drift and >99% in the Bayesian one. Which seems reasonable unless you assume that polling is significantly biased in her favour.

Coffee was, previously, mostly something that outside of specialist shops you got in a white mug at the diner or a to-go cup. Maybe there were flavorings, and I am sure espresso and Turkish coffee were around, but it was a pretty fungible good. Holy poo poo.

I just heard the most ridiculous Trump ad ever on a national Hip Hop and R&B radio station. It was targeting African-Americans.

quote:

Black Woman: Election day is coming up and I'm thinking about voting for Hillary Clinton.

Black Man: Even after she called African-Americans "Super Predators" and the head of Black Lives Matter refused to endorse her?

Black Woman: How could she do that? I thought she was on our side?

Black Man: She said she needed to have a public face to get our votes and a private face for how she really feels.

Black Man: She also wants to give drug dealers a second chance.

Black Woman: The same ones that have been destroying our community and killing our kids for years?

Black Man: And did you hear what she said about us in her emails?

Black Woman: Disgusting...

Black Man: Dr. Ben Carson was the head neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins and is a Christian. He's a role model for the black community and he supports Donald Trump.

Black Man: If Ben Carson supports Donald Trump...

Black Woman: ... Then so can we!"

Simulation-based results can easily give you an (unrounded) 100% without anything foul being at play. If the real probability is very low and you draw 10.000 draws, maybe you get a batch of 10.000 As and no B. Maybe you would have gotten 5 Bs had you run it for 1 million draws.

But the more straight-forward reason would be rounding.
There is basically no difference between 99.4 and 99.6%, of course.

Still, my personal guess would be even 99% is an overestimation.

I'm not saying I doubt what you're saying, I'm just not sure what exactly you mean.
Well for one there are the people who don't watch stuff like a Louis CK or a Dave Chappelle set, and don't count video games among their hobbies because it takes away from range time and handloading and otherwise preparing for the end of the world or RaHoWa or Hillary Clinton being elected President - or all of the above. So for these people yeah you can't call them racist because if they see a black person they have the discipline not to immediately shout racial slurs at them or brandish a firearm, so this makes them Not Racist.

Then you have people who know about all that, but they don't view it as a threat because it's not serious. It's just a silly white comedian or a silly black comedian or a silly video game, and it's nothing to worry about it's just harmlessly irreverent stuff. I suspect this is the majority of white people. These people are able to ignore the stuff you mention in pop culture because they don't take it seriously and are able to convince themselves it isn't aimed at them anyway, at least not directly person-to-person and again it's just harmlessly irreverent anyway.

All that changes as soon as you tell them, person-to-person, that no, that poo poo they just did or said is racist as gently caress and they need to cut it out, because they don't have a coping mechanism for why it doesn't apply to them anymore, since you are directly telling them it does really apply to them.
