Roland Jones posted:Yeah, I had another Facebook argument with the Bernie-to-Trump guy, and his argument eventually boiled down to saying "Look at all these scandals and emails! There has to be something there, she's totally corrupt," versus me saying "Prove it; 'where there's smoke there's fire' isn't a good argument when she's had enemies trying to smear her for longer than I've been alive." He never provided proof but likewise wasn't convinced by either my pointing out that most of the "scandals" are really nothing nor that Trump is provably corrupt, so about the only thing accomplished there was me putting up long pro-Hillary arguments my relatives may stumble upon if I don't preemptively block them or something for a while. 1. Clinton does what she does because she thinks it's right 2. Clinton does what she does because somebody pays her to So at worst - if 2 is true - this means somebody could in the future pay her to start doing abhorrent stuff. However, Trump is already doing abhorrent stuff seemingly out of his own free mind.

To be fair, if you exclude trackers, polls are bouncing between a close win and a big win for Clinton. There's no bouncing towards a tie or Trump win, for the most part. So technically a 100% win chance seems fair to me. Winning at 270 is the same as winning at 538 after all.

I see there are some people who basically experience it as the downfall of Civilization when somebody makes a joke about "White people" or features a non-European civilization in Civ 6 or whatever. But there's also a huge culture built on White self irony. I know that because I guess I have to admit it's one of my favourite forms of culture. See e.g. Louis Ck, or stuffwhitepeoplelike.com. So there's a huge market for this, and I'd actually guess the market is mostly white. Similarly, it's not like e.g. David Chappelle couldn't pull a mixed audience. I'm not saying I doubt what you're saying, I'm just not sure what exactly you mean.

Hillary's chance to win in the PEC model is 98% in the random drift and >99% in the Bayesian one. Which seems reasonable unless you assume that polling is significantly biased in her favour.

It's just a silly white comedian or a silly black comedian or a silly video game, and it's nothing to worry about it's just harmlessly irreverent stuff. I suspect this is the majority of white people. These people are able to ignore the stuff you mention in pop culture because they don't take it seriously and are able to convince themselves it isn't aimed at them anyway, at least not directly person-to-person and again it's just harmlessly irreverent anyway. All that changes as soon as you tell them, person-to-person, that no, that poo poo they just did or said is racist as gently caress and they need to cut it out, because they don't have a coping mechanism for why it doesn't apply to them anymore, since you are directly telling them it does really apply to them.
