Yeah, I haven't been playing long at all so this was just the first time I've run into an Ultimate that wasn't pretty drat easy beyond my very early days where everyone was at a low level and had crap gear. I got some insanely ridiculous pulls right away (my first ever pull had both Platinum Sword and Masamune, iirc) and because of that my A-team was pretty much locked down really early and I was able to progress much faster than is probably normal. This was just a fight where I didn't have the tools necessary and really don't have any way to get them. No ice resistance gear of any kind, all the BSBs for characters that I actually have leveled up are elemental, and the fact that I'm saving up for R2 Full Break means I can't really afford to craft + hone a bunch of lightning abilities just for this one fight. Not the end of the world by any means, but ugh missing out on 7 major orbs and a piece of resistance gear is rough as hell when there's so many skills I need to hone and when I have almost zero useful elemental resistance accessories.

Panic! at Nabisco posted:Do the entry nightmare fights (not the actual nightmare bosses, but the four realm bosses each gating the way to them) when they come back up to get major resistance accessories for every element and a nice assortment of major orbs. Yeah, I saw those, and I managed to do a couple of them that seemed specifically weak towards physical teams. I actually tried to get the Ice resistance armlet before the Ultimate in the hopes that it would help but uhhh those Mandragoras are crazy as hell. Just completely smoked me with no effort. I don't think I can take any of the actual bosses yet, but I'm definitely going to push to finish more of those sub-bosses next time it comes around. By then I should have a few more sundailies under my belt and hopefully some better hones.

Honestly I feel like the only thing unfair about Daedalus is the Stop, and even then it is possible to work around it. He's bulky, but he's got a very exploitable weakness.

So someone said in here that the current JP meta is such that wall isn't as necessary anymore. Why is this? I'm interested to know, because it would REALLY free up some space to not have to drag along Tyro or Y'shtola.

Honestly, we're sort of there already in Global, at least when you're a longer term player with good relics & hones. The major contributing factors are: - High end bosses have many more Def/Res piercing attacks, that are the major threat in any given fight, so Wall does nothing. - More access to stacking -Mag% or -Atk% debuffs means we're not just limited to Breakdown + Fullbreak anymore, but things like BSB commands with unique stat ID's means it's easier to stack 3-4 debuffs on a target, and reach the debuff caps. - General power creep: We can kill stuff fast enough that a Wall is less valuable than just doing even more damage. Best defense is a strong offense, and all that. Just look at Cid's Mission teams people use to clear Ult+ content right now. It's rare that anyone uses SG or SS2 RW, unless they already have a native Hastega and Boostaga/Faithaga. Wall is obviously still super useful when you can run it, but it's not pratically mandatory like how it used to be before.

If you're getting stuck on aoe'ing down the Azers, try a strategy where you just kill them one by one. I haven't even crafted Multi Break or any aoe damage abilities; most of my damage was from Fang's single target BSB command, with Vaan spreading around Magic Breakdown via his BSB. Having Rosa's magic blink + medica helped me survive the beginning, and then fight gets way easier as soon as the first Azer is down.

I'm interested to know, because it would REALLY free up some space to not have to drag along Tyro or Y'shtola. It depends on the fight. Torment-250 fights and Multiplayer-200 fights can be done without Wall (in fact, I've done a number of the Multiplayer fights Cid's Mission style which is pretty fun), but are vastly, vastly easier with Wall. U++ is easier to do Wall-less, but I still bring Wall anyway because I have nothing else to RW with my A-Team. Torment-200 Cid's Missions are brutal without Wall but basically impossible without haste+boost/faith, so unless you have a native realm source for those you kind of have to do them Wall-less. As for the why: Power creep in general. You can kill bosses quicker, stack more offense and defense buffs on your characters, have infinite-ish use AOE heals, stack more offense debuffs on the enemies*, etc etc. OSBs of the proper types also really help with cutting a hard boss's HP down to size. * - we actually looked this up a couple weeks ago. There are enough different stacking Attack or Magic debuffs that you have to use an entire 8 person Multiplayer team to provide all of them.

Oi, finally got around to the FF12 ultimates. Beatrix actually got killed in the battle, Immobilizega was timed perfectly with Wall and Shellga falling off and she was drawing attacks with her Burst at the time. I still managed to win with no medals lost, but that definitely made it a bit scarier. I'll save the big guy for later, since I'm feeling drained today and want to save stamina for the event later anyway. But I wanted that lode so I could spend it on Agrias immediately.

Adding to the wall discussion: Ive had wall for a pretty long time now and havent really used it in a while, though I still run Tyro because his BSB has Protect/Shellga and stackable breaks for commands which is nice I did break out wall again for this FF12 event (Not for the U++ though which is kinda funny) This batch of Ultimates were no joke

# ? Nov 3, 2016 18:22 |

Huh. This U++ is the first U that I can't beat really easily in a long while, probably due to my horrifically low amount of FF12 synergy gear. That's kind of hard.

I've had Wall for a long time but barely ever use it, mostly because I also have Shout and Ramza is a much more useful character than Tyro is. So Ramza takes the A-team spot and I just RW Wall, the only real exception is Nightmare dungeons since Tyro gets synergy in all of them, so might as well use his Wall and RW something else.

I've been liking mage meta lately just because I have native faithgas, so I can bring them + wall and have the freedom to RW a topical BSB/OSB rather than the same loving thing every fight. I'm getting really tired of RW wall/shout/sheepsong being the Only Choices!

We'll get other choices soon enough! That is to say, variations of the other three of the Big Four, since we've got the two Wall variants out there. Shout has clones, Sheepsong has clones/variants, and Maria's Song is going to see variants in the upcoming months. Once you have all of the Big Four, (or at least two/three thereof) you can be more creative with your RWs and start dragging along OSBs and BSBs and poo poo.

I'm in a particularly weird place regarding the above, since I have a Wall and I have a Shout-. The issue is that they're both on White Magic specialists (although Lenna has Dancer 4 which is pretty nice.)

Flames of War is also a slightly lower strength; it will serve you, but a RW Shout would be tangibly better in all circumstances except FF5 CMs.

It boils down to hones. I started playing April 2015 and the only content I haven't cleared so far are a few CMs (Mainly FF8), Brynhildr in one of the earliest XIII events, and the original Rinoa parade float. I've spent exactly $1 on the game, during the first FFT event. It really does just boil down to hones for most people unless you have insanely unlucky draws, which even now isn't as much of an issue any more with G5. Just being able to clear ultimates consistently gets you more major orbs to make more 5* skills so you can clear ultimates more consistently. With regards to Ahirman, you don't need to kill the adds at all. Take Basch, put Magic Lure and a Gigas Armlet on him, and Shout as an RW. Now all you have to do is figure out a way to survive Maser Eye and you win. Put +HP accessories on your squishy healers. Chillgamesh fucked around with this message at 01:14 on Nov 4, 2016 |

Last 100 Gem for a while got me pain(e's sword). I'm not pulling any more on these banners; my FFX synergy isn't too bad, a native Hastega was one of the biggest things I was missing, and I have a real shortage of mythril so I need to stock every last blue rock for OK1.

I was chanting "big money no whammies big money no whammies" under my breath as I drew, and audibly gasped when I saw the two shiny orbs So, uh, now that it's relevant to me, what was special about Tidus's OSB regarding synergy and elements or somesuch? Also, should I combine these or leave them apart? I'm leaning leave 'em, since my X synergy is abysmal.

The exception is if you expect to use mages in a CM for that realm and have no other mage sticks whatsoever. Panic! at Nabisco posted:
Apocalypse is one of the relatively few OSB weapons with an always-on boost to its element, which combined with its 6 star base stats makes it a superb weapon for your new best bud Tidus in any realm whatsoever. You should also leave them separate for now, especially since you say your X synergy is bad. 6 star base weapons have notably better stats than once-upgraded 5 star base weapons, and now not only do you have incredible physical synergy weapons for FFX, you have two swords with 160+ Attack in every single realm.

|
# ? Nov 4, 2016 02:31 |

It's a slightly superior version of Faris's BSB, mainly because it's 10 random target hits instead of 5 single target hits, meaning it'll spread the initial Full Breakdown debuff over, most likely, the entire boss battle instead of on just one boss. Mostly irrelevant against single bosses (where Faris is much better just because she's a vastly better character than Wakka), but a significant upside against multi-target bosses.

Sorry about the constant posts right now, but you goons are making me way jealous. Anyhoo, for at least the X event, I switched my RW to Tidus and his Abes All-star Burst. Friend ID is 2YXW, go nuts. With synergy, his ATK should be at 499 (not that it matters much with a Burst, but hey, hit'em harder!)

Support 5 with else above 3, and weaponry is highly limited (knives, blitzballs, thrown, bows). Faris meanwhile is fundamentally amazing on base, competitive with Ramza among Support 5 characters. Hurt that this is probably the first good relic Wakka's ever gotten once they patched out Vit0. So yeah, Wakka certainly earned that reputation as bottom tier! The burst is still seven shades of awesome though.
