ImpAtom posted:Okay? I've yet to meet a Democratic candidate who is left enough for me so I'm not particularly buying your argument that I secretly want the world to burn in hellfire. Quite a few people on this subforum are to the left of me and many of them are more than willing to support incremental change and are defending Hillary Clinton. You're blaming the far-leftists instead of the specific subset of them who are uncompromising moral-purity-firsters which doesn't make a lot of sense. The latter exists but they don't compromise the entirely of the former. I, for example, am very quite likely further to the left. I can tell you, incremental change is a MOTHERFUCKER. I support Clinton! I support incremental change. I support it, because it's the only kind of change I'll ever get. It is... Maddening, to see years shaved off of your life because lines of treatment were legally impossible to pursue, and have to take ten steps to get around to the place we might otherwise have only had to take one step to get to, but for some obstinate motherfucker standing there, going "Nah. It makes me feel icky. Spend a decade figuring out a work-around so my icky-feeling isn't provoked, instead of a year otherwise." Incremental change is arduous, and painful, and low reward. You may never see results. Your children may never see results. But maybe, fifty years after you're dead, what you've done may have made life a better place for someone else. Incremental change is like picking a fist fight with a brick wall. Sure, you're going to bloody, and break your hands. You will scar yourself, and wound yourself in ways you never thought you'd have to. You may hurt yourself so badly, that you need to find someone else to fist-fight the brick wall. But you heal, and bricks don't. I hate being shackled to incremental change, when I can watch people's lives be destroyed with the stroke of a pen; when I see the immediacy of rewards seemingly present to those who profess obstinacy, hate, and obstruction. That they can have their cake today, their cake tomorrow, and can socially treat me like I'm human dogshit for wanting cake as well is one of the reasons I'm seeking the degree I am. I loving loathe incremental change, and feel that it is the worst kind of cowardly Neville-Chamberlain-Appeasement bullshit. I also, in my bones, believe that the perfect must not be the enemy of the good. That incremental change must be championed and promoted, because it is the only tool that has ever shown itself to be effective against intransigence and recalcitrance. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't have time to worry about moral-purity being first, because I'm too busy getting poo poo done on the ground.

Also based on reports of early voting, Clinton has basically already won Nevada, or so I have gathered.

Thanks to whoever brought up Rex Ryan bufoonery earlier. I was able to get my stupid cousin who is convinced that Clinton is a Moriarty level super criminal to vote for her by comparing her to Belichick and Trump to Rex and asking him if he wanted America to win the Superbowl or not. I wouldn't call it 4chan exactly, but it was Not Good; this was before Hillary called Trump supporters "deplorable" but that's still a good way to describe what I saw. Also my SA origin story is that I discovered a Dominions 3 LP here (the "Pantokrator: Fondly Regard Creation" one; it was great but sadly most of its images are lost now), which got me interested in both the site and the game, and eventually registered to do things like play said game here. Branched out somewhat since then, but that's how it started for me.

I have tried the hardest to not normalize racism my whole life, but if someone says I'm racist if I don't support reparations and won't listen to why I don't, then I'm either going to have that "I'm not racist because..." defensive disaster of a talk that makes things worse, or I walk away thinking "guess I'm a racist now." It's way too late at night to start the fight this could easily become, so pretend I'm just another white dude saying this. Your understanding of what racism is, what being racist is, is childish and a little hysterical and that's why you're having so much trouble understanding this issue from the point of view everyone else in the conversation can see it from. You seem to think the world is full of people chasing you around with a red-hot poker trying to brand an R on your forehead. That "racist" is either something you wholly are or wholly are not, and since racists are monsters and you're pretty sure you're not a monster, it must be those awful anti-racists who are so wrong. Or sexism, any kind of bigotry you're afraid of being accused of. Racism is a vision problem. People who try to talk to you about this are telling you you aren't seeing what is there, and are seeing things that aren't there. A racist might see nonexistent danger in a harmless black neighborhood, yet completely miss the barriers keeping people there from moving to the "safe" white neighborhood. They are telling you you have blinders on, or sometimes a full blindfold, and that makes it easy to trample people. Stop panicking and getting outraged when people alert you to a completely solvable problem. They're only trying to help.

Hillary's firewall is still there, and we're only four days out from the election. I'd say her actual chances of winning should be extremely high, or at least better than the roughly 65% he's giving. I know he's taking uncertainty and the possibility of polling error into account, but it still seems ridiculous for her numbers to be that low. His model doesn't even factor in that the early vote in Nevada appears to be going well for her. She may have already won the state, in which case the event of New Hampshire flipping to Trump doesn't matter.

Well, what do you do if say a small-government Romney voter Republican calls you the real racist for bringing up voter disenfranchisement because "anyone can get an ID, stop coddling black people and assuming they're too lazy/stupid to go to the DMV". You evaluate it and decide whether it's a good argument or whether it's a baseless insult to paper over the lack of a coherent position, right? You don't (I assume) go "well I guess I'm a racist now may as well elect Trump to really get back at this Mitt Romney fella", do you? Like, I don't get the problem. Either the person telling you your views have racist/sexist themes is arguing in good faith, in which case you should consider their arguments and critically reevaluate your positions to decide whether they're right or wrong. Or the person is some aggressive idiot in which case you can just safely write them off, you certainly shouldn't just decide to adopt consciously racist positions because some moron called you one (and ironically prove them right after all).
