oh, that reminds me, the awesome classist soda tax is on the california ballot again this year

(it's classist because it applies taxes to sweetened drinks that poor people buy, like coca-cola, but specifically exempts sweetened coffee- or tea-based drinks that rich people buy, like frappuccinos)

Where? It's not any of the propositions. Are you sure this isn't a city thing?

fake edit: are you sure you didn't just not check the news about this for 7 months and have been stewing in your rage against the 1% frappucino-drinkers for no reason the whole time?

estimated date of delivery is May 2017, prime time for jokes about Marco Rubio. that's assuming everything goes perfectly in development for this Video Game Kickstarter by a team who's writer and programmer have literally never made a game

ferrero has for a long time been making ads that heavily imply nutella is healthy, with wording like "made from hazelnut and just a hint of cocoa" [and no mention that the other 90% by weight is icing sugar and palm oil] and showing it as "part of a nutritional breakfast" consisting of six eggs, two bran muffins, a whole grapefruit, etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IpVDkg3kL8

so while anyone who reads the ingredients, or has a normal sense of taste, can tell that the stuff is icing in a can, the courts considered the ads misleading enough that they awarded damages for false advertising

iirc if you mail the receipt for a can of nutella bought in the last 5 years or so to ferrero they'll send you a check for $8

So same as the phrase "Part of this complete breakfast!" where a bowl of lucky charms is next to some oranges, apples, banana slices and poo poo in the commercials that interrupt saturday morning cartoons.

I just saw a kickstarter for a cool idea that's not a good crowdsourcing campaign. Dude makes DIY battery packs. Like, he pre-fabs the cells in packages that have solderable tabs, so if you want to roll your own custom size and shape of pack you don't need to gently caress around with spot welders or any of the specialist tools that are needed to properly fab battery packs - all you need is a soldering iron.

Like the way people DIY battery packs (soldering them) anyway except in a way that soldering them doesn't gently caress them up.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1354698863/maker-batteries-build-your-own-lithium-ion-battery

I guess it's a lovely crowdfunded thing because

1) it's cheaper to just buy a commercial pack for any non-custom need like your RC plane or car or whatever
2) your need for a custom pack prob won't intersect with the actual campaign
3) and even if it does, your need for a custom pack ALSO has to be OK with being on ice until fulfillment rolls around
4) assuming your need for a genuine custom pack even meshes at all with the campaign pledge packages (which are prefab sounding things like e-bike pack, RC pack, etc.)

I like the idea but it looks like a really thin market segment to have 1-4 line up, but good luck
