Has anyone commented how they have used the same exact preview of Negan banging on the gate like 3 times now?

They used sad puppy lip quiver Rick as well, which they aways do. Upcoming and next week are used interchangeably to sucker you in

I think that's what they're trying to do with her as well, or at least, give us the impression that's what they're doing. I was waiting for Daryl to respond to the name question with "Daryl, but you can call me Neegan". They keep toying with the idea that they're going to kill him off and it's super boring because we know that they know that they're not going to do that any time soon for fear of viewers switching off.

Good, they should kill Daryl off so this show can get canceled within our lifetimes. I can just imagine it now, a world without The Walking Dead ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ugq1Mgofr4

The episode was alright. I actually really enjoyed last week's episode with The Kingdom, but I already knew from the previews that this would be a Daryl episode. Getting some insight on Dwight was interesting, and watching Daryl get dragged around and degraded for an hour was somewhat satisfying. Next week they're supposed to show Negan in Alexandria and Rick supposedly renounces his leadership to all the Alexandrians. Wonder how that will go over with everyone. So far I like this season better than last season.

Negan has gone full 1984 and successfully politicised the orgasm. But actually the armed guys he keeps around have loads to lose. Right now the people working for points, the 'proletariat' if you will, are providing the labour that keeps Negan's hand-picked army in cold beers, warm beds and like, they can have wives and families too. If all that costs is kneeling and saying "Negan" then gently caress it, no different to humouring King Ezekial really. Honestly Daryl was an idiot not to join up. Happy Noodle Boy posted:As long as she says yes. Yeah Negans "no rape (unless it's systemic coercion then it totally doesn't count lol)" rule was a nice little bit of characterisation. But a distressing number of comic fans still took it as 'see he's not that bad really!' instead of picking up on the hypocrisy/megalomania/social control of it.

Isn't she Negans Wife/Concubine now? He's trying to get her pregnant too so I can't imagine he'd hand her off to Daryl plus he can use the Alexandrians to keep Daryl in line. I thought the episode was ok. There wasn't a lot of follow through with all the threats; the lady said Daryl would be better off going back to his cell with an onimous 'it will be MUCH worse if you get caught' but all he got was a beating. Negan gave him three options (with no 'door number 4'), join him fully, join him and work for points or end up as a walker on the fence, Daryl defied him and ends up....back in his cell? Negan is doing way too many fakeouts. Every sentence Negan speaks seems to be some sort of threat so the more he talks and doesn't deliver the less menacing he gets. 'Lucille feels disrespected...but she's not thirsty....BUT IM THIRSTY....so I'll get a drink!'. Aye very good Negan. What was the '39' thing written down in the notepad in the opening?

Yeah that makes sense I suppose, she wouldn't be wondering about the prison wing if he didn't want her to. I dunno, people often fall in line behind some pretty reprehensible leaders. His top henchmen have every intensive to protect him, do his bidding and take out any malcontents.

Yeah I don't understand that part either. He has a bat. And everyone around him, even his most closest, personal lieutenants, are still guys he treats like poo poo, constantly tests, and plays mind games with. I could understand if he had some sort of inner circle of best bros who prop him up, but literally everyone would be better off personally if he was gone.

But ultimately they have a decent quality of life at this point, where pre-Negan they were likely on the run and starving. The saviours are brutal and Negan is a dick, but who would take his place if they revolted? They know they need him to keep this quality of life going.

Being a dictator is hard work. You have to surround yourself with people that are strong enough to defeat your enemies for you, but at the same time not strong enough to challenge you.

Nthing the whole "having your most loyal armed guys be people you are essentially forcing to work for you one way or the other" is a really dumb way to be a dictator. Of course it is happening in other parts of the world atm, but they literally have nothing to lose aside from not having a designated leader for 4 seconds if they decide to overthrow his rear end. Hell, the Termites had a more believable structure than him, even the Wolves, because they all went through the same tragedy together. Negan just...knew how to kill zombies and fortify a place? We have also not really seen a truly loyal person under him. Like, someone who genuinely believes he is good and strong for the community, or at least as mustache-trilling. They have all been shown as bullied into his service either through intimidation or extortion or "hey, I'm a violent crazy rear end in a top hat but if you love me I won't do anything to you, I promise." I dunno, he's just not a compelling villain and I see no reason why someone shouldn't just off him and do things the way they saw him doing, minus the slavery.

I have EASY STREET stuck in my head. I watched the last episode somewhat drugfucked last night. It took about 3 hours 'cos I had to keep rewinding it. So I kept replaying Daryl's misery. And re-watched it again this morning. I went to sleep with Easy Street in my head, and woke up with it. I've been trying to flush it out with other tunes, but it's loving locked in.

Of course it is happening in other parts of the world atm, but they literally have nothing to lose aside from not having a designated leader for 4 seconds if they decide to overthrow his rear end. "This thing that happens in real life and 'works' is completely unbelievable and dumb." The show may not be presenting it well (that's a matter of opinion of course), but they've dropped all kinds of hints as to why Negan is able to hold them all together with him at the top: He keeps leverage on people and plays them against one another. They show this with Dwight and his wife as an example, but it's implied that everyone in Negan's inner circle is in a similar situation in some way. Ok, so why not just kill Negan, get your loved ones back or whatever, and elect someone else as leader? Because there are factions within this group that hate each other (presumably Negan has done this on purpose)--as soon as Negan is gone and there's a power vacuum, you've got a civil war for control. It's not going to be peaceful. During the sandwich montage we see a guy from that inner circle beat to death over some innocuous poo poo. You'd certainly have people taking revenge on each other for grievances of the past and present. Don't forget that Negan has been assembling this group by absorbing other factions--people in that compound have been responsible for inflicting the same kinds of violence on the friends and family of others in the compound as they did to Rick's group. There's the inertia of the status quo, the Stockholm Syndrome poo poo they're showing Daryl resisting, the perks of being a part of Negan's select group, and the tenuous and fraught nature of alliances within--but the other factor to consider is what happens to all of them when cracks start to show to those on the outside? They're quite literally surrounded by hostile societies with an interest in seeing them ALL dead; some of which are well armed and coordinated. Hilltop, Alexandria, The Kingdom, and however many other groups are being extorted would definitely be looking to pounce at the first signs of weakness.

Also, the most interesting thing from the last episode was in one small detail: When Dwight stuck that Polaroid of Glenn's smushed head up on the wall of Daryl's cell. Did anyone else get reminded of last season, when Rick's group raided that Savior outpost, and they found the photos of other Lucille victims hung on the walls? We all just kinda assumed it was meant to show that Rick's group was justified in murdering them in their sleep because they were monsters that reveled in violence...but what if they were unwilling peons working for "points" and those were photos of their friends and family that they were forced to leave up there by Negan's 'lieutenants'? I mean, it's been awhile since I watched that episode but weren't there a whole bunch of them living together in lovely bunk housing? Not nice furnished rooms like what Negan was offering Daryl to be a real member of the team.

To be honest, that was kind of in the back of my mind from the beginning, but I just kept telling myself "No..." because I didn't want to believe it. I thought keeping pictures of dead bodies and busted heads over one's bed was a little too over-the-top evil even by TWD standards but decided in a world based on a comic book, it wouldn't be that far of a stretch. But now I'm starting to think that my initial theory was correct.
