It's not the fact they have roots in Europe, it's that the "white" identity is almost entirely predicated upon institutional racial supremacy.

Not counting the 4:00 am preemptive nuke strike which we can pray doesn't happen, the real danger is that I'm guessing we'll be a 6-3 SCOTUS by 2020 combined with all the law enforcement agencies and justice department full of Trumpsters who certainly aren't fond of minority issues to say the least. There's lots of damage that can be done in a short amount of time. That doesn't get into the fact that the seeds have been sowed for open racism in American politics in a way people thought was gone for decades. Look forward to the KKK making a resurgence in areas where they have been laying low for years. Additionally Trump won't be able to fulfill any of his campaign promises leading to more attacks on the people he claims are the "problem." Lastly we are going to get Jim Crow laws full stop. Think NC before the Justice Department but more so, openly racist, and legal.

I'm not sure how the Democrats recover from this by 2020. They don't have as many up and comers and the DNC is toast. The only silver lining (and it's super small) is that this will hopefully be the end of the DNC which has been failing since 2000. Obama was an outlier with his charisma but otherwise they have been doing little. Some of that isn't there fault because of the obstruction in congress but their weak rear end 2014 showing should have been a serious wake up call that they were not effective. Maybe the answer is more socialist policies, but I'm not sure how you do that without white people complaining that minorities are getting benefits they don't deserve.

One of the things that's been baffling to me about this election is realizing how little I have in common with a huge number of people I share a race with - insofar as "white" is a useful race definition, which is complicated, given that "white" is more defined by what isn't white than what is. I'd always thought of white people as being fairly divided, politically, just based on the fact that they were a majority of the country. Civil Rights era didn't see white people all unite against voting rights, for instance: they were divided in a way that allowed it to pass at a time when the white majority in this country was even larger. But we've seen a huge number of white people all vote the same way this election, especially white men. It's bizarre to realize that, statistically, I don't have much in common with most other white men. It's also bizarre to see every other consideration go by the wayside, and instead see white people, who are a diverse group in terms of economic background, location, etc., largely voting on white identity issues.

Not to knock the rest of your post but (for obvious material reasons) the war on drugs was pretty popular within the af am community, up until recently (with again obvious material reasons).

Yup. Also it's clear that the populace, while loving assholes that gently caress them over when they are conservative and place the blame on "others", have lost all patience with neoliberal Democrats. Anyone that thinks Cory Booker is still a rising star is crazy. The next two years needs to a frantic search for people that can speak to white voters to get them back on board while also not allowing themselves to go down the dark path of social benefits for whites only.

Could happen, especially if the economy fails. its what happened in 2006 and 08. Its just that the dems need to be competently lead and we're likely going to have to purge the DNC before that can happen.

This goes beyond domestic policy and healthcare. This touches worldwide stability.

Think about our embassies. How they are going to go out today and tomorrow and in the future and assure people that we stand by our alliances. Think about China, a nuclear armed Japan (that btw HAS NO ARMY), a South Korea without US troops in it.

Think about climate change. We are guaranteed complete inaction and possibly an acceleration of warming due to ramped up coal production and fracking. Think about how seriously 4C of warming is going to destabilize the world, as coastal cities are overwhelmed and food production collapses.

This is really, really scary.
