LastInLine posted:Yes, that would do a good job disenfranchising half the people in the country. Alternately, we could do voter ID laws, purity tests, and other Jim Crow-era tactics to disenfranchise the other half of the country. Dude did you even read my second paragraph or are you too loving dug in for Hillary to understand how my second paragraph would fix the country by massively increasing voter turnout and removing lesser of two evil voting and destroy corruption? There's no reason with the current electoral college for a dem to campaign in texas for prez and you are retarded to think otherwise. Nice meltdown, I'm a socialist and you know nothing about how democracy could work to actually help people matter in their votes.

TyrantWD posted:What are the Democrats supposed to learn from this? People who cared about the economy more voted Hillary in the exit polls. This wasn't an election lost on policy. Remember, a large part of the GOP donor class sat this election out, but that's not going to be the case in 2018 and beyond. With less money, and less bigotry, expect the same 4 years from now. I personally think my lesson from this is that Obama took it too far too fast. Dems not only lost the White House but also the senate and the house.

Pick posted:What else could they sell? "Whoops, never mind the previous president also from my own party, gently caress that guy?" If they wanted that, who could they choose but Bernie? I don't think he'd have held up under the scrutiny, ultimately. And you don't really get to be the change candidate twice in a row while maintaining essentially the same platform, by definition. We just had to elect the guy that is EXTREMELY likeable, that's it. Instead we got two unlikeable people to compete and well, look how well that turned out.

This isn't a meltdown and I never believed Hillary had a chance (my state went 95% for Trump and I'm a white straight male so it's all academic to me). My point is that the system worked just fine when electing a black guy named Barack Hussein Obama twice. No reform necessary, just a standard right-of-center Democrat with an optimistic message and some charisma. There isn't any broken system to fix, the Democrats just ran a terrible, unlikeable candidate and rightly lost due to hubris.

Guys, what if instead of trying to appeal to the anxiety and distress of rural whites about their changing place in America and maybe tossed them a bone or two to get them onboard, we instead just shamed the gently caress out of them to get them to see the only morally right thing to do is vote for our candidate? That sounds like it'll really amp up voter turn out during this extremely critical election. Shame will do it. Shame will win the election. (a candidate with no shame whatsoever and who positively revels in his shamelessness goes on to win the election) WHAT COULD HAVE POSSIBLY GONE WRONG WITH OUR SHAME PLAN!?
