And Kaine goes straight to identity politics and saying she lost because she's a woman. God drat it, have you learned nothing from this? You need to figure poo poo out to get the house and senate back in 2018.

In 2024, Trump will no longer be President, America will have learned nothing, we will no longer be considered that powerful/special on a world stage, and China will have used our isolationism to their advantage.

Schnorkles posted:Look at 2006, it was basically the first expression of the Obama coalition. Popular backlash does midterms. It's hard to do it when you are the party in power. The problem with expecting that in 2018 is that assumes Trump fucks up royally and swiftly enough for things like that to affect the national consciousness. He's not liked but that isn't enough to turn the senate if big bad things don't happen.

Soul Glo posted:Serious question: 1. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/p...e-a7406346.html 2. Bernie appealed more to working class voters than Hillary, even those in the rural counties. 3. Hillary's best argument to vote for her was 'she's not Trump'. That's a loser argument. Sanders brought enthusiasm. 4. The DNC rigged the primaries as seen by DWS making sure there weren't enough TV debates between hillary/bernie so bernie couldn't get exposure, the wikileaks hacking of the DNC emails showed that the DNC tipped the scales in favor of hillary (i.e. donna brazille giving hillary debate questions from cnn ahead of time), and the fact that many states had ludicrous cutoffs for primary registrations (new york's cutoff was in october of last year, way before bernie's campaign took off).

Schnorkles posted:From a hard poly-sci standpoint, I'd place Trump's coalition at about the same level as Carter's. The next 4 years are going to be a wild ride. I agree with this. Putting aside Hillary's shittiness, Trump's win is held together with bailing wire. He got less votes than Romney. He barely won the rustbelt states he did win, and even Bush was in the toilet after 9 months until 9/11. People want change but they aren't SO stupid that they'll ignore everything. Of course, that's predicated on the Dems not nominating a moron in 4 years. If there's a silver lining to the loss it's that the Clinton's are decidedly out from being the king-makers in the party apparatus. Don't sleep on Cory Booker or Kamela Harris. And don't forget, the Obamas are YOUNG. They aren't Jimmy Carter, or Bill Clinton who, even when effective, always carried baggage. The Obamas are ridiculously popular for a two term Presidential couple and if things work out in 4 years like I expect they will, it will be the Obamas who will have the most sway picking the next candidate. AND they'll probably handpick or strongly suggest a campaign manager that brings back the 50-state strategy of a rising tide lifts all boats (and therefore, incidentally, minorities). Trump is going to claim a mandate, but this is a ridiculously weak win.
