So I was curious about the numbers in Florida and the demographic breakdown, so used these two sources for vote numbers and demographics:

http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/florida
http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/08/politics/first-exit-polls-2016/

so for the 3 main candidates in Florida there were 9,296,909 total votes cast. According to the CNN exit poll 18% of voters in Florida were Hispanic, of those 33% voted for Trump - roughly 552,236.

Trump had a majority of 119,817 in Florida.

Trump wouldn't have won Florida if he didn't have a good level support among the Hispanic population there, he only got around 8% of the votes from Black people (97,600 roughly) so if his support amongst the Hispanic population was down at the same levels as it was in the Black population, he would have lost Florida , and only been on 250 electoral college votes.

The Puerto Ricans in Florida do not hate trump like Mexicans do.

I'm "hinting" that it racism is one of ways in which frustration can manifest, and that Democrats are first incompetent that they can't use the same frustration to inspire a different, more constructive emotion, second that they refuse to delve into these supposedly forever tainted waters, thuse conceding the conservatives, who have no such reservations about interfering on ideologically hostile ground, more and more territory. In other words, that they are so afraid of getting their hands dirty that they would rather lose everything.

Nobody is born racist, and nobody is irreversibly racist, especially if racism squares off demonstrably with his primary material concerns. If those were true, the entire leftist project would collapse at its foundations.

There is a lot of hispanics that truly believe Republicans aren't talking about them when they rail against Mexicans.

I'm not from the US, so this probably doesn't mean much, but I was so depressed by the outcome that I had to start looking for some kind of silver lining. One I thought about was how during this campaign I was so scared of Trump winning that I often found myself just hoping Romney had won in 2012 so we wouldn't have to watch this.

That lead me to think that maybe, just maybe through electing "just" Trump, America has dodged electing someone even worse in 2020. If we had got a President Clinton out of this election with a margin of narrowly under or over 300 electoral votes, she would have potentially been in big trouble in four years and potentially against someone just as vile and divisive as Trump, but potentially actually very clever and possibly a "true believer" in everything they say. In European terms, just maybe America elected a Silvio Berlusconi here but avoided electing, you know, Hitler in 2020. At the very least Trump probably said a lot of what he said just to get elected. Absolutely horrifying in how it legitimizes such rhetoric, but at least he probably doesn't believe in much of it. At least America elected someone who was kind of courteous and respectful in his victory speech, not someone who instantly starts spewing about flushing out national traitors or something,

Yeah, that's all I got for now. Probably not much of a relief for everyone terrified for their future right now. I'm from Northern Europe and I'm not terribly excited about what Trump's foreign policy means for Russia's options from here on out :(
