"garbage" might be overstating it. buses can be OK when there's high service frequency but not much traffic. that describes lots of places in the outer boroughs of nyc. i would still rather not ride a bus if i can avoid it. and i always can.

as long as nothing inside the airport is broken like the airtrain or security newark is a deece airport and it's easy to get to the worst part of manhattan very quickly I once stayed at a hotel right near EWR at the end of a trip, it was like a depressing alternate universe [but $150 cheaper than staying in the city] plus the cabbie was super sketchy and tried to rip me off
