I mean, you want to appear clean and shoot down claims of corruption, but then you turn around and take in DWS after she was ousted for giving your camp preferential treatment. Because gee, she certainly turned out to be a valuable asset.

I remember all the Hillarymen claiming that it was just to keep up appearances, and that DWS was still useful and powerful, and Hillary would pragmatically and discretely punish her behind the scenes so that made it all ok. Shoulda made a public example of her to help fight the popular image of a corrupt politician who valued loyalty over anything else. But during that time the 'gently caress Bernie we don't need him or his supporters' sentiment was running particularly high.

Nobody in family voted for Trump, but you know what they didn't vote for Clinton either. They aren't racists, and they aren't sexists(loving lol if you tried to say that to my mother), but what they all are (including myself) is poor. and I know for a fact all us would have gladly voted again for Bernie Sanders. A lot of it is condescension through inaction. They're constantly ignored and treated like they'd never vote for a Democrat because of where they live.

Their votes are constantly treated like a foregone conclusion.

You'd be surprised by the number of people in these areas who will vote for someone they don't even really agree with simply because that person took the time to at least entertain their opinions.

People just want to be listened to and unless you've got a bunch of money to buy a plate at a fundraising dinner or live in a densely populated area where they can reach more people at once, they don't give a gently caress.

Its partly the media, but mainly its the way city dwellers have always viewed the rural populations, with a seasoning of identity politics to make it extra spicy.

1. All whites are racist.
2. All poors are double racist, uneducated and abject failures because they had all that white privilege and did nothing with it.
3. All rural people are triple racist, backwards, and probably inbred to boot.

Therefore gently caress poor rural whites, they will only be satisfied by the literal subjugation and re-enslavement of blacks, and would never have any other hopes, dreams or desires we could appeal too

E: also all their problems are 100% their fault, since smarter people would live in cities and use their privilege to be IT workers. So double gently caress em for staying out in their hovels

Honestly it's going to be difficult to win back rust-belt workers without any realistic prospect of passing legislation at the federal level. What can the next Democrat presidential candidate even promise aside from being a roadblock to Republican plans? Maybe they need to take a page from Trump's playbook and make extravagant, impossible promises as that no longer seems to affect electability.

the democratic party is a party of entropy because their policies sent their union democrat base screaming in absolute horror to the republicans and you will never, ever, ever get them back.

never.

you told them they're horrible racists for wanting to keep their mining and manufacturing jobs because climate change was more important than them. they could "retrain into green energy jobs" that never appeared. the textile mills closed. the furniture factories. the plastics. on and on and on. everything is gone.

you shoved through legislation that hiked their health insurance premiums, and called them racists when they told you they couldn't afford it. you raised taxes on small businesses, and mocked them when they protested. terrorist attack after terrorist attack, you told them they should just suck it up and import more people from countries controlled by actual terrorists instead of coming up with proactive solutions to clean up the mess over there. you didn't kill the patriot act, but doubled down on it.

their towns and small cities died. you laughed and said they deserved it because they were a bunch of racist uneducated hicks while sipping your organic soy chai lattes in your instagrammed safe space echo chambers.

and because the democratic party is that loving stupid, they went after the middle class white collar whites by dramatically increasing the number of H1-B visas for their deep pocket democrat donors' companies. the progressive minded middle class STEM engineers with $100K+ student loan debt are on welfare trying to take care of their elderly parents. they don't loving care anymore about you calling them racists, or that donald trump said mean things.

all donald trump had to do was read off drudge report headlines to the democrat base absolutely sick and tired of hearing about social wedge issues that didn't affect them. the smartest thing the democratic party can do is sit back, shut up, and watch the next year or two so they can actually have a seat at the table.

but instead of doing the smart thing, the democrats will go after the blue dog democrat senators for not being left enough, and the senate will get a republican super majority in 2018.

by the time 2020 rolls around, a good chunk of today's democrats will be the republicans. the democratic party is done because you're still calling your former base a bunch of racists, and the remains are a loose coalition of groups diametrically opposed to one another.
