I don't think it was a mistake to trust the consensus of polling and try for important bonuses like propositions. The problem was aiming for electoral votes in landslide states at the cost of maintaining your firewall in case of a polling error, because bonus electoral votes don't actually get you anything.

Trump didn't have a coherent vision of the future, but he was the only one running with a coherent vision of the present. It just happened to be based on white supremacy instead of what's actually causing the problems in the first place.

the trump tutelage posted:If you voted for Hillary you hate Muslims, South American democracy, transparency in politics, etc. I don't know what the long-term answer is, but I'm amazed at how aggressively some of the left-wing public icons/heroes are trying to shame the very people who didn't vote for them in the first place, like that's going to be helpful in any way. fer example, both Sam B and the Daily Show had segments last night where they literally screamed into the camera, directly shouting at "white women" for being gender traitors and not voting whatever way they should have voted. "HOW DARE YOU NOT VOTE FOR HRC DON'T YOU KNOW SHE HAS A VAGINA AND TRUMP WANTS TO GRAB VAGINAS? YOU'RE TOO DUMB TO MAKE YOUR OWN CHOICES GOING FORWARD THANKS A LOT WHITE WOMEN!!!!!" I get the whole frothing with rage thing because your candidate lost, and I get that people who are significantly disadvantaged already are likely to become screwed even more severely, but you've got to leverage that hate into something productive. screaming at a group of people who didn't vote for you about how dumb they are for not voting for you isn't going to endear them to you the next go-around. I feel like there should be a ton more effort to figure out why those people who were expected to lock the election for HRC either didn't vote for her, or didn't show up at all, and not in a snarky way like: "why didn't you vote for the only candidate that was ordained to be the sole champion of your gender?" <explanation> "oh what was that, I couldn't hear your answer over all the stupid that was coming out of your mouth!" *mugs for camera with 'can you believe this moron?' jon stewart face* edit: I guess that's the biggest lesson I see; the entire left-wing media machine spent a whole lot of time trying to show the average TRUMP voters how dumb they were with clever word-play and by making silly faces at people while they gave their actual attention, and it accomplished gently caress-all. I know private entities (Viacom, TBS, CBS, etc.) don't have any obligation to do anything other than entertain, but you'd hope the talent involved in those programs would realize at some point that they do have the ability to influence our culture, whether they want it or not, and that they'd figure out at least how to not gently caress up their own goals. TRUMP engendered a ton of nationalist / racist / etc. sentiments and emboldened a ton of people who have some terrible opinions, and even if he had lost by the landslide that HRC's team was predicting, all of those people who had voted for him weren't going to just vanish into the aether. I would have still been curious to see what HRC/the Dems would have done to either placate those people or educate them or whatever, because her entire campaign otherwise seemed to alternate between pretending they didn't exist or else trying to shame them into changing whatever awful opinions they already held, but at no point was it evident that there was any kind of outreach to try and figure out just why so many of these people came out of the woodwork for TRUMP.
