Apparently the French version was really good in that regard, and there's so much neat stuff and references that I hope they at least try to cover most of it.

I will admit -- for all that I love this goofy snow Tarantino narrative, I'm noticing a pattern where any man who expresses attraction to other men dies pretty quickly afterwards (Edogai, hairy nipples Yakuza guy and his boss, that serial killer who got a boner imagining Sugimoto killing him) and it's made me a little uncomfortable. Am I alone in this? Am I just reading too much into it?

The two yakuzas weren't even the first to die in their arc - the English dude's helper got killed off first, and the two guys hounding that dude for money offscreen. Very few people actually survive their arcs, so I don't think it's like some established pattern of gay dudes dying, more just a pattern of almost everyone besides the main characters dying.

I feel like if Noda had some sort of anti-gay agenda, he would make his gay characters a lot more stereotypical and a lot less likeable. I mean, everyone loves Edogai and the yakuza couple avoid falling into a lot of different common tropes about gay people that tend to show up in manga. All of those characters are charming and when they die it's in a cool, often heroic way. So if Noda is trying to say something by killing them off, I don't really know what it's supposed to be. If I had to say the one agenda I feel exists in this manga, it would be this: Noda really likes boners.

Hasn't someone commented that like half the peculiar poses and special faces in this manga are references to weird jokes and obscure Japanese memes? The Last Supper probably doesn't even make the top 10 of out-of-place references in this manga, the overwhelming majority of us just does not recognize them as such.
