Like this is 2016 and the right wing media machine is an oiled monster now and daddy will tell people to trust it and they will. CNN will capitulate and have Very Serious People on inside of six months talking about how the YPG are terrorists in league with ISIS and we'll be boots on the ground before the leaves turn brown. mike pence will be running the show and blame any domestic problems on the queers. Houston, we're Havana problem.
Detroit metro area has the largest Muslim population. Talked to the Muslim Student Association at my university about escorting Muslim students to their cars. I haven't heard about any of the stuff going on around the country happening at my school but I fear it is only a matter of time with how many visible minorities we have. (Also have 24% black student population, which I think is the highest for a non HBCU.)

That said, our march last night was inspiring and, in an interesting move, the PD stopped traffic to allow us to get by. I don't know how typical that is and I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that more than 60% of our PD is minorities.

Anyway, everything is super scary but I feel better about the left in the US than I have ever felt before.

About 300,000 people in Wisconsin were prevented from voting because of the new voter ID law there. Hillary lost the state by about 27,000 votes. (Source: The Nation)

I'm not saying blame the loss on voter suppression and leave the poor did-nothing-wrong DNC alone, obviously. But I am saying it happened, and it was a factor in the election.

Also, interestingly, Minnesota's turnout was down too, but still probably the highest in the nation. Minnesota has what I think are the least restrictive voting laws in the nation. (Minnesota also very nearly went to Trump, probably would have if Gary Johnson hadn't been running, and that was drat near unthinkable a week ago, so, again, can't just blame the election on Republican-sponsored voter suppression laws.)

uhhh hillary lost the state by about 100k votes http://wisconsinvote.org/election-results

Yes. The Democrats got played.

Republican sabotage of the economic recovery created a sense that politicians didn't care.

Republican sabotage of the ordinary political processes of our government created a sense that government needed a radical change in how it was operated.

Republican sabotage of the judicial appointment system stole a seat from Obama and gave it to Trump.

One of the most important reasons I voted in this election is to avoid rewarding the historically bad behavior of the Republicans. Now both parties may take it as a sign that everything Republicans have done since 2009 worked perfectly.

The worst part is, I can't figure out what Democrats could have done differently.
