In the spirit of getting all of the problems on the table up front, here's something to consider:

That changing demographic that Democrats have been waiting on forever now; its relevance and very existence are completely at the mercy of the Census Bureau. The Census Bureau is a part of the Department of Commerce. Trump obviously gets to appoint the Secretary of Commerce. The current term of the Director of the Census Bureau expires in 2018; and Trump then gets to appoint the new Director. The GOP has been out to gut and completely reform the Census Bureau since way before 2010. I don't think there's any reason to pin any hopes on the 2020 Census as providing any relief in future redistriting or elections.

So your predicting a conspiracy to falsify the counts?

Guess what Trump is going to destroy a lot of good things because he had no experience. Being progressive and experienced are not mutually exclusive.

Anyone acting like this is just a normal election loss and "we'll put the gang back again in no time!" is missing the entire loving point. People are pissed. They're pissed because the capitalist class loving savaged the wage class and those of us in the salary class (many of us here including me) have sat by and allowed it to happen because we substituted cheaper iPhones from overseas in place of actual rising incomes.

The wage class has been exploited to the point of near extinction, and hollowed out towns blot the entire loving nation. These people have been loving savaged by capitalists. And the Democratic Party has done nothing but sneer at them for over a decade. These people's anger is why every loving election for the last decade except 2012 has been a massive gently caress you election. 2006, 2008, 2010, 2014, 2016 - all massive gently caress you elections. The only reason 2012 was any different was the raw political power of Barack Obama and loving Laughing My rear end Off if you believe that will happen again in our lifetimes.

People are loving pissed and lashing out because the party in power offers ZERO loving solutions besides waiting out the clock until these people loving die. The party not in power offers ZERO loving solutions besides swearing the other guy did it and offering to go punch them in the loving nose.

We're supposed to be the Democratic loving Party. We're supposed to be the party that protects people from capitalists and loving helps those who have been savaged by capitalism. Here's a giant loving group of people who have been absolutely savaged by the capitalist class, and instead of helping them or protecting them we've sneered at them and laughed about them being dumb loving hicks and proposed bullshit policies that boil down to encouraging the kids to flee and hoping the parents die soon.

We need a New Deal. We need to give these people Real Jobs. We need to put solar power and wind power factories in these towns. We need to put research centers and local clinics in these towns, hire researchers and doctors from the local state colleges, and hire locals for all the HR, security, accounting, procurement, shipping, reception, and all the other support positions.

Will these federal facilities give everyone a job? No! But the only factory in town never employed everyone either! The only factory in town just paid enough people enough money to support the gas station, the cafe, the three general stores, the diner, the couple other restaurants, the liquor store, the bank, the veterinarian, and the half dozen other stores. You don't have to employ everyone, just give the people who are already here the income to support the town again.

Maybe you could do this with a minimum income. But these people don't want to loving sit at home all day and collect a check once a month. They want to feel like they're actually loving doing something! They want to feel like they're part of something! They want to get paid for putting in a a good day's work! So take liberal priorities like clean energy or research or healthcare and put these loving people to work already!

I think the better argument is that the guys who are paranoid about immigration and terrorism are paranoid because of economic issues. Think of economic concerns as poo poo in a toilet. If there's a little poo poo, it all stays in the toilet. If there's a gigantic pile of poo poo, it gets stuck and backflows and poo poo goes everywhere. The malaise about a bad economy becomes so significant, and so all-consuming, that it starts poisoning a viewpoint and leaking into other places, places where there shouldn't be poo poo.

This might not be the best analogy but I hope it helped.
