China is now puffing out its chest and warning President Trump against a Trade War. They're not going to buy iPhones, Boeing planes, American cars, or corn! I would think that banning iPhones would spawn Tianemen 2.0, but that's just me. Imagine no iPhones and no luxury cars? I mean forget the massive amounts of food they have to import and how cheap corn is.

Middle-aged, inscrutable Someone here links the wikipedia of logic not existing in China and also the armchair general pic. Also Hong Kong is better, and Taiwan is #1.

Holden: It doesn't make any difference which app, its completely hypothetical. NONG: But, how come I'd be on the app? Is it Chinese? Wechat? Holden: I don't know, maybe you are trying to have sex with an expat. Who knows? When the person you are talking to says Taiwan number one... NONG: Taiwan? Whats that? Holden: You know what China is? NONG: Of Course! Holden: Its like China but better and not owned by China. NONG: I've never heard of this better than China. Holden: The person repeats Taiwan number one... Pon de Bundy posted:are you saying there is a place in china you can't smoke ? I have heard rumors that the smoking bans in Beijing were actually being enforced, and that some people were even respecting them. I don't live there though, can't verify. I was in Korea when they started banning smoking and I was shocked that people actually just... did it. The first couple months every bathroom was hotboxed and you had to push through 50 dudes puffing away to get to the urinal, but then that faded away. It wasn't perfect but it was a huge improvement. Koreans are just as dedicated to smoking everywhere all the time as Chinese dudes so I really didn't expect it to work at all.

Hospitals and the lobbies of important buildings (large banks/corporate towers/+3 star hotels) are the only places where I have seen people either refrain from smoking, or getting their asses pushed out the door if they do light up.

My favorite smoking experience in Korea was I was on a nearly empty bus and this old dude got on and lit up. The bus driver yelled at him to put it out. He threw it out the window, then lit up two cigs and smoked them both while putting his feet up on another seat and staring the driver down in the mirror. If you're going to be an rear end in a top hat at least go for it 100% and be baller as gently caress at it like that guy, put in some effort.

The AQI was 225 this morning, and about 190 where I live right now. The air is brown and looks like nasty fog and tastes like car exhaust fumes. I am wearing a filtered pollution mask. Chinese person: "Why are you wearing a mask?" Me: "Because the air pollution is bad and I want to keep my health" (Yes, I live in China, kinda pointless) Chinese: "It looks fine to me, I don't notice any pollution." Me: "You can't see the haze?" Chinese: "Just winter weather. You don't need a mask." (It's 87F/30C today, with a heat index of 37C/98F) Me: "I trust the machines to tell me if I need one or not. You're not scientist." Chinese: "Neither are you!" face_loss.bmp

330 where I am right now. Yesterday you could look directly at the sun without worry, today the sun isn't visible at all. I have seen two Chinese people with real masks today, and a few with those cloth things that don't do anything. This poo poo is hosed it usually isn't like this until January. Last week was nice. It's still unseasonably warm too so the home coal burning shouldn't be in full force yet. I'm hoping this is burning rice fields or something and it'll calm down in a bit. E: For context 400 is the worst I've ever seen in my city. A really bad day in a relatively polluted American city like LA or Vegas would be a bit over 100. Some places in the US will issue air hazard warnings at 50, which is an excellent go outside and play day in China. The lowest I have ever seen is 5. I did so much breathing that day you don't even know. These are readings from the US consulate monitors so they're likely accurate. Even the Chinese one is saying 277 right now though. Somehow it's always lower than the US number! Grand Fromage fucked around with this message at 08:33 on Nov 15, 2016 |
