There's an article on ESPN today that posits Hendricks will win the Cy Young even though Scherzer deserves it, because voters will care more about ERA + working to limit hard contact over strikeouts. It's funny because I think Scherzer will win the Cy Young even though Hendricks deserves it, because voters will care more about strikeouts over ERA + working to limit hard contact

Hellickson took the QO from the Phillies, apparently because the teams interested in him didn't want to give up a draft pick on top of signing him. He'll make 17.2 million next year.

Going by Fangraphs, there were 24 catchers last season who got 300 or more plate appearances. 10 of them managed a .750 OPS or better. So... yeah, I'll take an average-hitting catcher with a cannon arm like Sanchez's any day of the week.

So the Jays offered 4/80 to Eddie. I love this new cheap rear end management jays. Smoak as full time 1st baseman. Outfield of Carrera/Pillar/Upton Jr. 2 or 3 good relievers. This season is going to be rough.

Paul Zuvella posted:Very surprised that Hellickson took the QO. He may not really be good, but the pitching market this offseason sucked, and someone probably would have thrown 5/85 at him I thought this same thing too but then I remembered teams probably wouldn't give up a draft pick for a 3/4 starter while also paying that same 3/4 starter 15m+ a year for an extended period. If there was no draft pick attached he could certainly have gotten 60m guaranteed from some team. Didn't Dexter have this problem too?
