Lightning Knight posted:I wish I remembered this better. This happened right before I became even barely politically aware and well before I had solidified political ideology. I remember it was a huge deal and in particular the tactic of legislators literally fleeing to prevent them having enough to vote. It was very surreal even living only an hour away. Oh well, Barack Obama had a campaign promise to literally walk the picket line with labor unions and then didn't do a god damned thing except give very tenuous lip service to this strike. One of the many times he failed us (I still like him, but he get away with poo poo).

A Tin Of Beans posted:"america is already great" was the worst possible thing to say to The Rust Belt basically Agreed, but it was kind of a no-win situation for Hillary, because if she said "America isn't great right now" then it still reflects badly on her because the Dems have already had eight years to Make America Great Again, and blaming the Republicans would be difficult to pull off without pissing off those white working class voters. That's why the Dems started off with a fundamental disadvantage on the economic front - it wasn't enough just to convince voters that they knew how to fix the economy, they had to explain why they hadn't already fixed the economy. FeedingHam2Cats posted:We. It's the opposite: policies that help minorities are perceived as hostile by working class white Americans. And if the Dems abandon minority-specific problems to focus only on things that help all poor people regardless of race, then minorities will lose trust in the Dems and we'll be right back in this situation again.

So how long until the establishment GOP demands that Bannon get shitcanned? Probably as a prerequisite for any type of cooperation.

Admiral Ray posted:Yeah, people aren't kidding when they say Bannon is a white nationalist. Unfortunately searching for info turns up tons of articles that are all 5,000 word explanations that generally just say "BRIETBART!" and "His ex-wife said during divorce proceedings..." and that's not going to convince anyone that isn't already convinced, not that I entirely blame them. The divorce comments usually get top billing and using that is a reliable source is pretty weak. Stuff like this, though, might actually get a few people to wake up. Probably not, but a guy can dream.

It will be really interesting to see how the corporations that actually run the country respond to all this. As New Balance and North Carolina's HB2 have shown, overt racism and discrimination is generally bad for business and companies aren't going to put up with that poo poo.

Breitbart is going to be the only news ("news") outlet to get press credentials in the Trump White House, so he needs Bannon. Doesn't the debt ceiling time bomb come up for another vote next month? It's like the congressional version of the hatch from lost.

This is going to be the weirdest 4 seasons of the apprentice. Also everyone who is angry and doesn't really like what's happening you should find your local dem party and volunteer. If the Trump administration is going to govern like this and gently caress up the country then we're going to need people to make sure they loving pay for it in the coming years. It's great to just wait until elections to go phone bank or whatever but there is so much poo poo to get in order long before that's even a thing. http://asdc.democrats.org/state-parties/ If you're still in that angry/upset/election hangover phase and need a pick me up, just go to a loving meeting. There are loads of people like you that want to fix this and are showing up to find out how to do that. If you're in Richmond VA or the surrounding area drop me a PM. If you think the democrats are a bunch of spineless corporate shills go tell them and then volunteer to help change that. In order to do that you need to go to a loving meeting. How some of you guys manage to hold up the gun, find the trigger, and jerk yourselves off all at the same time in a circular firing squad is impressive, but if you are that talented you should maybe go show your local party so they can put you to good use. So go to a loving meeting. On Terra Firma fucked around with this message at 05:04 on Nov 16, 2016 |

I guess I can see why pluralism-only advocates are really afraid that they'd be ignored if another cause that wasn't theirs worked enough that a Democratic ticket might win again. They've been seeing the history of the class advocates getting their poo poo sold down the drain and derided as bad things as soon as it was feasible.
