I don't know why so many people have Seagate issues, I've only had one or two fail in 5 years after being used 24/7/365. But yeah, statistically, Seagate seems to be awful.

I have 3 HGST drives. One is coming up on 8 years of spin time, another is near 7 years of spin time. One has a single bad sector. The other has 2 bad sectors. Those bad sector numbers have held steady for over 5 years. The external Western Digital makes a backup of the important poo poo every night, but also holds a ton of movies and porn. The porn and movies can be replaced if it does crap, but that drive also sits on the floor, on its side, where it can't get knocked over. e: yes I'm well aware many HGST drives are based on Deathstars. Knock on wood, I've had very good luck with them so far. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 05:41 on Nov 16, 2016 |

Those drives were my Vietnam.

I'm poo poo at comiserations but for what it's worth.... TT my condolances. It's not much comfort but at least her suffering is over - just one bit of advice would be to make sure the funeral is about remebering the good times. One of my aunts died a few years ago and by the end no one was crying or sad - we remebered a wonderful lady and a drat funny one too. We were all richer for having known her. Hold on to the good memories.

The local CL FB page for my school, someone's selling a loving 36" Trinitron tv for $50. A) I hope they've got a crane, and B) man I wish I could justify that. Sorry about your loss, TT. I've lost grandparents but not a parent yet, I can't imagine how gut wrenching it must be. My dad just turned 60, mom's 58 and they're both in pretty good health, so hopefully it'll be some time yet before I have to start preparing myself for the inevitable.

If you know how to hang sheet rock and use a level I imagine you can do it. If that sounds challenging hire a pro. e. also tolerance for projects taking longer than expected. If it has to be done quickly hire a pro.

Stupid biodegradable plastic housing on the rearview mirror in my FC RX-7 disintegrated when I adjusted it this morning. I'm only driving the thing because my wife is driving my Crown Vic, since the clutch is slipping in her Kia. SMH. Annoying as hell driving to work with no inside rearview. Makes me paranoid. I guess I can slap on one of the spare windshield mount ones I have in my parts boxes (the OEM one mounts to the roof, coincident with the dome light.)

Hardibacker board for the underlayer, fiberglass tape the seams, and tile mortar with polymer base for filling in the gaps between hardibacker, let it dry over night. Next day, sand down morter so it's flush with the hardibacker since it's what you're going to be tiling into. Then just do a normal tile job, you should find plenty of youtube DIY tiling videos for showers.

Job chat: applied for a mid-level admin job with the Ohio Turnpike Commission late last week, heard from my friend's friend (who is a senior admin there) that I'm literally the first serious candidate they've had apply in a month of the job listing being up - apparently they only post jobs on their own website and don't use other job boards or recruiters. Got a status update this morning that my resume has cleared the bean counters in HR and is now in the hiring manager's hands. This might actually be happening

Our other security guard wandered onto the property late last while I was working drunk as hell, in the lobby babbling incoherently to the front desk worker, and bleeding all over because he apparently fell or got into a fight. I suggested he go home and he got combative, telling me to go ahead and call the cops. But I know better, and have dealt with drunks for way too long, and if he sees me call the cops he's going to go off the deep and and who knows how long I'd have to deal with him before they got there, so I just talked him into getting into my car and drove his dumbass home the whole time enduring his stupid loving insults and trying to get him out of my car once I got him there. Love my job.

I think we might've scared her straight a bit when her mother passed this year, largely as the result of blatantly ignoring her own health problems.
