Finally I can conquer norsca Seems like a really weird feature for the wood elves though, what do they want with some frozen tundra or a dwarven hold? I guess we'll know more soon.

sounds like they can capture everything but not necessarily build stuff there their mechanics sound cool. capturing regions gets you amber, which can be spent to improve your armies or upgrade some magic tree in your home province, and to win the game you have to completely upgrade the tree.

I liked the horde/settlement hybrid we were discussing a while back, but TBH WElves being able to "conquer" everything works too. Now they're a threat to everyone per their xenophobic lore, and also capture the feel of "nature reclaiming her own".

Yeah it seems like instead of building a massive empire you'll be trying to maintain as many tiny poo poo little settlements as possible to send amber back home. The individual things you hold don't matter too much because you can't really invest in them, it's just about colonising the world to build your tree asap.

Yeah, it sounds like your home province is the only one that has the unit recruitment buildings, but you can global recruit for your armies based on which legendary lord you take. Orion lets you global recruit all elf units instantly, but tree people units require a special resource generated by your conquered lands. With the treeman LL it's the opposite, tree people instantly, but elves require the special resource. ^^^^ They also have a ranged unit hero that can fire while hidden. Also mounted flying archers. Also shotgun arrows that hit multiple units. Edit: Fighting against wood elf AI is going to be so loving terrible. Picture an army of chaos horse marauders that can be swapped to poison or fire attacks and also are flying, forever. DeathSandwich fucked around with this message at 16:47 on Nov 17, 2016 |

To summarize the trailer for anyone too lazy to watch iter and/or for those who couldn't pay much attention to it: - Wood elves can conquer anywhere, but they apparently cant do build much in conquered territories - Wood elves have unique resource called "amber" which they can get by conquering territories, amber can be used to upgrade special "god building" Oak of Ages in your starting territory, you win the game by fully upgrading it -Wood elves army will be broadly divided into two parts: actual elves who are fast, ranged and squishy and treemen who are slow, melee and sturdy. - Tied to the above are the two starting LLs: Orion the Wild King, who can recruit elves anywhere, but has to pay amber to recruit treemen (and is possibly limited to certain locations to recruit them) and Durthu the oldest treeman who can recruit treemen everywhere but has to pay amber for elves - The elven archers will be total bullshit: They have archers who can fire on move, archer who have 360 degree firing "cone", stealth archers, archers who can fire while in stealth (although that is apparently only a hero), special ammunition... - They have a forest dragon, which actually was only a choice for WE lord mount in TT and not a fully independent unit like here. But it look badass so whatever - The trailer was from a quest battle against Morghur, so he should appear in some capacity in the DLC and will possibly be a new LL for Beastmen.

quote:The Wood Elves campaign offers a uniquely different campaign experience to the other playable races of Total War: WARHAMMER. Their major infrastructure is housed in the Wood Elf settlements of Athel Loren, though they are capable of expanding outwards, capturing settlements and building limited outposts, known as Asrai Lookouts, in their stead. The heart of the campaign is The Great Oak, a unique 5-tier building related to the new Wonder victory condition. quote:In the Grand Campaign, The Oak of Ages is a unique 5-tier Wonder building sited in Athel Loren which the player must grow over the course of the campaign. As the Wood Elf player advances it to each new tier, they will receive increasing bonuses to their campaign. This all sounds great. Gonna pre-order this ASAP for the slight discount. edit: quote:The Wood Elves have unique tech trees and buildings, and as a highly developed and somewhat aristocratic race, the Wood Elf Council presides over matters social and military. gently caress this sounds amazing. quote:Settlements in Athel Loren have 10 building slots, providing space to explore the Wood Elves’ extensive building trees. quote:Orion has two combat skill trees, two battle skill trees, and a campaign skill tree. This great range of skills, many of which are unique, allows him to specialise as he levels up. In particular, he can bring numerous improvements to the many bow units in the Wood Elves roster.

It sounds a little like they might have both male and female Glade Lords available, which would be neat.quote:The Highborn lords and ladies of Athel Loren have ruled the Wood Elves for millennia, and when the race goes to war, it is these nobles that direct their forces. Powerful warriors and excellent archers, they have two personal combat skill trees, each of which brings improvements to their archery and melee abilities. Likewise, their Battle trees augment their armies along two different paths – mell and ranged. They may also unlock three mount options as they level up: the Elven Steed, Great Eagle, and Forest Dragon. quote:SPELLSINGERS (MAGE FOCUS) Confirmation that we're getting two new Lores with this update (and presumably wizards for the Empire).

You know, I've been Eeyoring about the warhawk riders for a couple months now, but it looks like CA have figured out a way to make them not completely cancer. They appear to be a sort of flying "chariot" unit with the low model count that implies, so at least they shouldn't be able to completely decimate enemy armies from complete safety. Then they decided there wasn't enough cancer, so they made it so Welf archers can fire while moving. With shotgun arrows

Considering how fleshed out the Wood Elves DLC sounds (Eagles, treemonsters, treemen, green dragon...), it really stresses how much the Beastmen need their Harpies, Jabberslythes and Ghorgons.

According to the datamined stuff the first expansion is new world + ulthuan with high elves, dark elves and lizardmen as playables. Tomb Kings as dlc 8 and Skaven as dlc 10 will likely come before that. I'm really excited to see how they do Skaven. Maybe a bit like the Wood Elves with special settlements (Skavenblight) and unique resource (Warpstone, maybe get more from highly corrupted regions) as well as special mechanics to move around quickly and unseen.
