I honestly believe that more than anything else the way she handled the dumb speech thing in the primary hosed her over in the general. I'll never understand why they didn't just put it out when it came up, take the blowback for a week then it goes away forever. They weren't even that bad really.

i'm not trying to be an rear end in a top hat btw, most people in CA are happy with their politicians and none of them ran on fixing prop 13 or strengthening unions (if anything most people hate unions here because of the prison guard one) but I'm 100% on board with supporting ones that actually propose those things

Houston, we're Havana problem.
FYI: Tatum was one of the most obnoxious Hillfolk and is likely unreachable. There was an article where one of the two BLM women who interrupted Bernie in Seattle said that Killer Mike was gaslighting her by Tweeting that he disagreed with her activism and Tatum concern-trolled the hell out of it, acting like Bernie's surrogates were terrible people who hated black people, never contemplating the fact that Hillary's supporters literally hissed at a BLM activist.

Tatum is p terrible.

That's exactly my point, "most people are happy" is a bullshit reason and means you don't actually care about improving things. "Oh, things are fine for enough people so we always get voted in. Our work here is done" is hosed up. The Democrats goal isn't to actually improve things for anybody. There are tons of people suffering in CA and there's virtually no drive or push from Democrats to actually improve things for them.

Their weak leadership is reflected in how poorly Democrats are doing at county and state levels all across the country. That weakness leaves an opening for actual progressives to show up and push the party to the left since they have no way to stop it. That'd require a real grassroots effort, but it could be done

Ben Garrison, an alt-right cartoonist and consistent Trump booster, used the word "gaslighting" repeatedly and incorrectly during the GE too. It's another one of those legitimate academic terms which the Internet found out about and proceeded to warp beyond recognition.

but here, literally the first thing in the first presidential debate

quote:

CLINTON: Well, thank you, Lester, and thanks to Hofstra for hosting us.

The central question in this election is really what kind of country we want to be and what kind of future we'll build together. Today is my granddaughter's second birthday, so I think about this a lot. First, we have to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. That means we need new jobs, good jobs, with rising incomes.

I want us to invest in you. I want us to invest in your future. That means jobs in infrastructure, in advanced manufacturing, innovation and technology, clean, renewable energy, and small business, because most of the new jobs will come from small business. We also have to make the economy fairer. That starts with raising the national minimum wage and also guarantee, finally, equal pay for women's work.

CLINTON: I also want to see more companies do profit-sharing. If you help create the profits, you should be able to share in them, not just the executives at the top.

And I want us to do more to support people who are struggling to balance family and work. I've heard from so many of you about the difficult choices you face and the stresses that you're under. So let's have paid family leave, earned sick days. Let's be sure we have affordable child care and debt-free college.

How are we going to do it? We're going to do it by having the wealthy pay their fair share and close the corporate loopholes.

They haven't done enough to address cost of living though, you have to be fairly wealthy to live in any of the cities and the solution to homelessness has often been to punish homeless people in the hopes it'll either force them out or make them magically pull up enough income to pay rent. Maybe it's ignorance on my part, I've never really lived there, but California's got a bad reputation and the Democrats have been lovely enough elsewhere to make me believe it
