M13 to M3 for Endo - Gonna be a rough ride. Hopefully he's up to it. It's never fun to see 12-3 followed by like 3-12.

For people like me who got into sumo because of this thread, I'm finding it really interesting to read up on the current wrestlers and follow some of the links to historical stuff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_sumo_wrestlers

The prebasho injury reports are quite gross now. Okinoumi has a rectal abscess and may go out. He actually had his first surgery halfway through the last Basho which explains his sudden performance switch there. Ichinojo has a herniated disk and ended up losing 25kg (60lbs)~ in the hospital due to lost appetite. They are trying to spin this in a positive way (wow he returned to form!) But I think every who knows this kind of injury knows better. Hakuho said that his ankle is good enough to do 'his sumo' but I'm not really assured by that.

Not enough fiber in the chanko. Or too much and a burdock root fiber splintered him on the inside. I can't imagine the discomfort or smell of the discharge, and I say this as someone who had rectal cancer and an ostomy.

It's ozumo time! Day 1 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jarlw80QUtg Kotoyuuki v Shodai MOTD - mostly snoozers otherwise. Yoshikaze v Terunofuji Maybe the most unlikely tsuridashi ever? My god, Ichinojo has lost so much weight.

Day 2 is up with some good stuff in the second half: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6ORrY_VgHY Lot of really good technical matches today. If you're new to sumo, watch the slo-mo in particular for a good clinic on how much grip shifting goes on, or lack thereof when someone nails the grip on the tachiai and ends it in a flash.

Well, we got some clarity this weekend on how this tournament is going to shake out. That should just about do it for any high-level promotion hopes. Goeido and Takayasu both pretty much need to run the table in week 2, and that is just not happening. The tournament is probably going to be won by Kisenosato or a yokozuna

Akebono and the other Hawaiians had some pretty gnarly hair, and they did a pretty good job with them. That sure won't be easy in any case. Day 9 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGzMbqEuJqg Some seriously explosive sumo in the second half of the day. As usual, this one's going to end on an exciting note.

I thought he was a young guy, but he's actually already 26 years old and took TEN basho just to get through juryo. However, the guy they keep comparing him to, whom I will not mention out of fear of jinxing Ishiura, similarly looked like a complete nobody until he hit 25. From that point forward, it was raining white dots in sumodb.

What would be funnier, Kise sweeping the Yoks and going 13-2 but finishing second to 14-1 Kakuryu who he beat head to head, or 14-1 Ishiura who beat nobody?

I assume that in the final days if Kak loses two, they will make Ishiura fight someone who is highly ranked to try and ensure that he at least has to win a playoff. But yes, clearly the comedy option would be an Ishiura Yusho, so thats what we should root for. edit: Comedy ending just got a little closer to reality Rigel fucked around with this message at 16:11 on Nov 23, 2016 |
