"It depends".

What's the degree in and what does he want to do, to start? Is he looking for a career or a paycheck?

He graduated in Chemistry with pretty good marks and been mostly working on and off and I think he wants something more stable career wise. I have no idea what he's applying for (but is there some things he should avoid?)

Victory and defeat are the same. I urge you to act but not to reflect on the fruit of the act. Seek detachment. Fight without desire.

Don't withdraw into solitude. You must act. Yet action mustn't dominate you. In the heart of action you must remain free from all attachment.
out of curiosity, how long did you wait for a callback for that position?

Not a lot of downsides - some career choices have a much higher failure rate (in attempting qualification) than others. Most posting locations suck rear end. Money ends up OK to good depending on chosen occupation: pilots get paid more than most officers, specialists like lawyers/doctors/dentists get paid a lot more than that. Might get shot/blown up/otherwise die gruesomely depending on the job.

The pension is what remains pretty well unmatched anywhere, but you have to put the time in obviously.

About 6-8 weeks, I think? I had applied for the pool and listed Montreal as a place I'd be willing to work because hey, the rent's cheaper than in Saskatoon, and they called 2-3 weeks ago asking if I was still available for the position before setting up an interview date/time a week or so ago.

The real question is what trade does he want to apply for? Life is completely different for a MARS officer compared to say a log O.

Think he was interested in more of a desk position (if thats possible at all) I think he chose Logistics and Intelligence. I'm not sure of the details.

Even within a trade, things can be really different. A safety officer has a very different working life than the recce officer, within the artillery.

Still better than android clock

Don't hold your breath on that. The latest offer to psac was .75% a year, which they rejected and pipsc isn't terribly eager about.

I still want to know why there's no pld in Ottawa. "You can live in Gatineau", yeah you can gently caress off, I'd rather live in the shacks where the most realistic public transit option involves walking to the airport.

There is still no barracks or transient quarters in Ottawa. You can stay in ancient PMQs at Uplands, stay at a hotel, or go gently caress yourself apparently.

Latest RUMINT indicates Canada will commit to super hornets before the year is up, military pay/pension will transition to phoenix, and that pay increases aren't on a discernible horizon. Confirm/deny?

So in 5 years Boeing gets extra points for commonality in an 'open' competition because of all this super hornet stuff that happens to be kicking around and ends up winning a contract.

Sneaky, but entirely in line with canada's amateur handling of anything military related. The only way to make this any more canadian would be to involve the irving shipyard somehow.

For "peak Canada procurement" it needs to take ~30 years.

Maybe if they were getting the newest and greatest attack helicopters coated in stealth crap and other Gucci tech, but not for basically a transport/rescue helicopter. Though how long it took/is taking just to replace THAT is loving insane, our procurement process is a loving joke.

They were not reminded to keep secret like the staff from the F35, but any procurement process is a secret one. The content and details of the bids are not to be discussed, from a pair of boots to a new fighter jet.
