The Atelier series? Kind of an unfair answer since the crafting system in those is one of the big draws around which they base the entire game, I suppose.

Turn up the difficulty ffs. I bet all you guys run normal. Or you use cheesy builds and then complain about your power. Try a no cheese build.

In my first run through DAI I put it up to Nightmare mode about halfway through the game and then just slowly outscaled Nightmare, which soon becomes super easy as well. I haven't played since they added the Trials system though, so maybe that ups the challenge. And to be fair, there are some hard fights in the midgame on Nightmare, it's just that you continue to scale past the difficulty pretty soon after that.

This is a good answer. Spellcrafting in Morrowind too. I have some sympathy for the trial and error alchemy stuff in Skyrim, though really that's just FAQ bait.

You're right, the itemisation is poorly balanced. This franchise would have the same complaints if every class had ME1 immunity.

I'm not disagreeing that there's some OP stuff. I am saying everyone knows the OP stuff at this point and if you choose not to use it things are actually very pleasant.

No, I ran a pretty suboptimal 2h/Reaver build that refused to let go of Combat Roll and often brought ungeared party members on missions to hear their dialogue. The game is really fun and I love it, but out of the box it isn't hard.

It's not like they don't know how to do it, ME loyalty missions and most of the DLCs are all great side content.

My pipe dream is that they unlink dialogue from mechanics (which it sounds like they might possibly be doing) and make more of the choices like Ashley vs Kaidan, not necessarily mutually exclusive and binary, just not 'did you pass a speech check?' Even as I say it though, I know that one of the reasons people like ME2 so much is because they can 'beat' the choices, rescue everyone, and get everything in one playthrough. I'm sympathetic to that, I'm not sure it makes for more memorable games though.

IMO the right way to do speech checks/RPG mechanics is to have the skill checks be invisible.

I think the ideal way to do it is like Tyranny--make the checks invisible by default but have an option to turn them for people who just have to have perfect information.

This was solved long ago, but you can't have content that people won't see because then the game experience won't be consistent and people will be confused and and
