NASCAR on an oval is loving ridiculously awful pure shitstain form of "racing" that needs to die in the dumpster fire it truly is. It is everything wrong with motorsport

NASCAR on a road course is loving ridiculously awesome pure hilarity form of proper racing that needs to be expanded out as you don't need to be off your face drunk to enjoy and is everything right about motorsport

In person the problem is its very nearly top-fuel levels of noise. Which is fine, even awesome when they are running in a pack, but when they are all spread out and lapped they just make a really loud drone.

Nascar on 6 mile ovals doing 300 plus would dwarf f1 in awesomeness. Even the superspeedways are tiny for the speeds they can do.

Gonna stomp on my own dick and respond.

Can some be boring? Yes. Are some amazing? Yes. And denying that it's good racing with great drivers is being ignorant for ignorance sake.

That said, anything on a dirt oval is better.

It would be very slow. They can't do poo poo but turn left due to chassis design, and the direct drive kind of hurts too.

Like iwentdoodie said, they can't do that. All the wheels are different sizes and are set up for turning left and your options for speed are in gear or out of gear.

I was a bit underwhelmed to be honest. It was fine, but it felt like just another mid-tier episode of Top Gear. I know they've got a formula that they know works, but I was expecting it to at least be a little different.

My favo(u)rite NASCAR is Aussie V8 Supercars.

Those dudes are bananas. They have to drive nearly as close to each other as the NASCAR guys, except with chicanes and hairpins and a lot of the time, no runoff areas.

Definitely liked episode 2 more than 1 but the main bit could have been edited down a bit more. I think it's going to take a bit for them to get up to speed but it's still far better than Top Gear Mk. III was.

Fun Shoe
Just my opinion and all but the military thing was super long and pretty dreadful fan service poo poo. Hopefully they learn to cut stuff like that since the show gets pretty bad to me when it very obviously crosses the realism line instead of kind of straddling it like they did in Top Gear.

Conversely the short burn out party segment was great. I legit want one of those beanies May was wearing.

Really enjoyed that, and the military groundhog day bit felt like me playing Onward (VR realistic military shooter). Utter incompetence.

I thought episode 2 was more fun than episode 1, the military groundhog day thing was very silly but I laughed a good amount at it. It was brazenly 100% stupid the entire time, so it wasn't like one of those TG bits where they started :airquote: realistic :airquote: and then everyone gets killed by a tank shell at the end.

I wasn't impressed with the first episode and the second was even worse. I'm not sure where any of you saw comedy in this ep, because the only good bit was the Vulcan bit. The military thing was painfully forced, they didn't contribute enough time to the May segment to make it not feel like he was told "just be an old man and repeat in your head "get off my lawn you drat kids!" and the "celebrity dies on the way to the tent" thing was old after Renner.

I enjoyed the military segment because it just reminded me so very much of me and my own friends playing Arma very badly. Right down to going fully automatic on the "stuck" player begging to be killed.

1375lbs. 950hp. Who needs gears? And it's 410ci, so even when it "doesn't have torque" it does. These are cars that can wheelie at 90mph, on clay.

It really wouldn't be that different from NASCAR when they go and do a roadcourse. It would be a dedicated "roadcourse" chassis.

....... This would never fly. This is sounding a lot like Group-B

Not a matter of set up. The whole chassis is designed to only go left. Making it go right would be a totally different vehicle.

The whole "Grand Tour" thing seems rather pointless. They started in the US so they could spend most of the show on a video shot in Portugal. Next they were in South Africa and spent most of the show on a film shot in Jordan. I'm not getting why they need to move their tent around the world. The shows wouldn't be any different if they were all shot in the same location.

It doesn't really make a lot of sense thus far. The creative exhaustion that marked their last few Top Gear series is already starting to show.

It's OK, but not awesome, I guess.

I agree, if it carries on like this. I thought that the idea was they would be in country X, doing stuff that's specific to that country as one big film interspersed with smaller stuff, like an entire series made up of the old TG specials.

The first episode I didn't really think about it, because they were saying it wasn't quite the same pattern as the others, plus the hypercars group test was such a massive thing that it had to get put in the first episode regardless.

But it really seems like it's just going to be more of the stuff I wasn't really interested in and now I'm afraid the cheap car challenges aren't going to come back due to lawsuits or whatever.
