seriously though what's the plan? there's not even a central government there any more, so there's not really anyone to demand a surrender from. everyone lives underground so you can't just stun people from orbit, and any planetary bombardment is going to murder hundreds of civilians and harden resistance. your galaxy-class starships are useless here. you're talking a major occupation force that would probably comprise a large army and would certainly take serious casualties, on behalf of a population that from all accounts does not want intervention or assistance.

this isn't even like iraq or something where you're removing a violent supreme dictator. you're basically committing to an expensive, protracted war of conquest and hoping that at some point during the occupation, the occupied people will decide to just start going along with it and spontaneously develop civic values in alignment with your own.

I'm going through TNG season 1 right now.

Worf and Geordi are in red and it's weird. Yar is there and I don't know her character at all from cultural osmosis so it's weird. Riker No Beard. Weird. Wesley is there in his horrible costumes and it's weird.

They need warp travel and a unified planetary government before the federation will even talk to them. But they're all human and a failed colony so it makes no sense. Gene wanted a rape planet, he got one.

The High Ground is such a good episode. Thorny issues of terrorism and Picard decks a man and does a better job of security than Worf. There are some episodes of TNG that are even more relevant today than when they were made.

When you see it, you'll shit yourself.

I started watching Voyager for the first time and I was hoping that it would be about the breakdown of a typical federation society where stuff starts to get run down without an extended stay in drydock and the animus between the different viewpoints of the crew but instead it just feels like the 1st season of TNG where instead of being in federation space they are just somewhere else.

Also all the characters are super un-relatable.

This is the gist of Voyager. Could've been long term anarchy on a starship with every encounter being more alien than the last and every day getting a little more desperate. Ended up becoming Gilligan's Planet.

Detector Circuits?
Deflectors up?

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I never liked watching Nog. I mean, he was written well enough but something about that little guy trying to puff out his chest and be a soldier while talking through his fake teeth never really sat well for me.

EDIT: for TNG, Alexander was ten times the Wesley that Wesley ever was.

Nog gets promoted twice. First they promote him from cadet to ensign, then in the last episode he gets promoted to Lieutenant (jg).
