I keep hearing people say Castro was bad, wish he died before his revolution and I'm just like, what did you want in Cuba then? Batista forever? A liberal democracy? Cool, and who's going to help the Cuban people set that up? Notorious friend of Batista, the USA? Annexation by Jamaica?

There was some "The Nazis were bad but the Communists were worse" listicle on cracked dot com or some poo poo where one example of this principle in action is that the Soviets seized this one guy's family farm.

All I said was the people going "Fidel did some bad stuff ergo Cuba was better without him" leave out that without him there was Batista (and subsequently don't ask "Was Fidel better or worse than Batista?") and there wasn't really any other alternative since the big powers in the region were perfectly happy with Cuban dictatorship (as long as it was US friendly dictatorship of course).

Yinlock posted:guess what the crazy communist dictator did some crazy things I don't want anyone to die or get hurt or anything, really. But it was a revolution against a US backed dictator and a defense against the most powerful state on the planet that regularly terrorized, blockaded and threatened the island.. Can you provide some primary source evidence of bad things he's done then furthermore put the decisions he made in context? Crocodile tears about nebulous victims of bad communists isn't really getting us anywhere yet you keep insisting to do that.. Deimus fucked around with this message at 01:23 on Nov 28, 2016 |

Deimus, please, contextualizing historical crimes is only for dead 18th century gentry justifying keeping slavery in a republic of liberty. By the way, for anyone having trouble keeping up, this is not "founder fathers did a bad there4 castro gud" it's "Perhaps reflect on the way historical actors are treated differently in the discourse depending on ideological orientation," h(ope )t(his )h(elps).

I grew up in awe of Fidel for having gotten the US to take what had to be the worst people of his country. The viciousness and incompetence of the Exilio political elite may have been the basis for my baby brain deciding that rich people use their wealth to hide how bad at everything they are. but then this was florida so i didnt exactly want for instructional examples
