I watched another episode of scorching ping pong girls. It was good. I also watched an episode of madoka. It was also good. I was surprised at how compelling it was despite me being spoiled on pretty much every plot beat already. In conclusion, anime is a land of contrasts.

Yeah, Star Driver started off really great - the first episode is perhaps my favorite opening episode of any anime, ever - but it got distracted partway through and never really found its way back.

The way I felt about it was that everything that happened felt "inevitable", even if you didn't specifically predict it ahead of time.

I remember Pikachu literally gave this long 3-5 minute inspiring speech (all in "pika"s) with dramatic music about not wanting to evolve despite just having lost a fight to a Raichu and Meowth was moved to tears.
