Something along those lines was always my assumption, but it didn't really fall in line with what the thread was about. I don't recall there being any cross-goon dating happening, unless it was someone offsite whose profile had been posted or something. Yucky, regardless.

Yeah, I always heard it was the Goon Love thread that ended in rape, not one of the online dating advice/chat threads. There's not enough great romance sagas in the forums. Remember that time when goons banded together to try to make the gooniest loser OKC profile in the world, and after it started getting a handful of real conversations, one guy volunteered to steer the vehicle right off the bridge and pose as the profile in the hopes of getting lucky after a woman agreed to meet for like, mcdonald's-a process that required a three hour train ride-and he was completely stood up?

It was sexual assault. No lurid details beyond that. I remember because I was unmarried and posting a lot in that thread, doing contrary to the goon given advice and getting a lot of rear end.

I wasn't around for the initial thread but I do remember seeing a few update threads and this guy was a really huge piece of poo poo. Not only did he murder this poor girl in cold blood, he started sending her parents letters and cards on holidays letting them know how sad it was that their daughter made him kill her. Most of the letters were about how sad he was and asking them for pictures of their murdered daughter so he could sleep easier at night. Sorry for the ED link, but they have the gist of the story. https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Andrew_Allred A Bad Website posted:

I can't wait," Allred wrote in one of two letters sent to the Barwicks on Oct. 26. "If you want them I can try and have them send you copies of all our cruise pictures and other pictures I had of her. I'm sure you have a bunch, but she was so beautiful, you can never have enough pictures of her and her smile." quote:I want you to know that a lot of it isn't true. Some of it is and I'm sure you can pick out those pieces," he wrote. "They make me look like such a bad person when I'm really not. I spent enough time with you guys for you to know who I really am." He is currently still on Death Row in Florida, but is appealing his sentence and asking for life.

For a second I was mortified that Mike Allred's son was a callous murderer, then I remembered that was a separate forums thing. For those who don't pay attention to such things, Mike Allred is a Mormon who draws and writes comics for a living (he's fairly successful and talented). His son was either a goon or roommates with a goon and apparently quite a tool (or so I've been told). Captain Splashback posted:Also, are forums invasions illegal now? Pretty sure they're bannable if it gets back to mods if you do one and mention SA by name, which I guess you'd have to if it was a proper invasion. Here's a question: How did internet detectiving become bannable around here? I know it used to be quite common in GBS in particular.I assume police or law enforcement in general were involved. Probably another dumbass got someone's personal info and used it to intentionally cause harm, like when they'd call someone's home phone pretending to be someone else or started sending dumb poo poo through the mail to 'scare' them. Some goons aren't the brightest crayons in the box, go figure.

Lowtax upset some Reddit idiots during that invasion that got the kiddie porn subreddits shut down. He showed up in the thread and said something to the effect of "Cool, now do /r/theredpill" or something to that effect.

In around I wanna say '06-ish when ARGs were starting to show up everywhere, you'd get crazy goon-props for being able to figure out a thing. So everyone was falling over each other to analyze the poo poo out of every OP. Photos, names, places, anything. So that kept escalating. I think in the P-P-Powerbook thread, some goon drove by the presumed scammer's house & took a photo of it, and it later turned out it was a completely unrelated house. For a while it was a catchphrase to "take pictures of the OPs house" & variations on that. That's probably very shortly before internet detectivery became bannable. Helldump came in 2007 and that also contributed, I'm sure

Powaqoatse posted:I think in the P-P-Powerbook thread, some goon drove by the presumed scammer's house & took a photo of it, and it later turned out it was a completely unrelated house. Two different threads from memory - P-P-Powerbook was a guy selling his PowerBook on eBay who realised the winning bid was a scam, so went along with it and shipped a useless binder with gags on it and marked up at full retail cost so the guy would have to spend about £100 or so on getting it from customs. Goons went to the cybercafe/barber shop in London and messed around with screen savers and watched goings on. The other one I'm a little hazier about, but a girl bought a MacBook Pro off someone here and turned out it was a scam - so she got the computer and he got nothing. People were driving past the alleged house and taking photos.
