CzarChasm posted:I think it's worse now, because I want to say Joe Quesada(?) was asked about doing a DC/Marvel Crossover and he basically said "DC Sucks", and DC came back with "DC will not play nice with Marvel as long as Quesada is in charge". I mean, that's kind of one specific example, but it seems pretty petty on both sides. That was Bill Jemas. Joe just had to stand there and deal with Bill making an embarassment out of himself and Marvel. When he was ousted the "AOL Comics" stuff died down quite a bit.

He's basically the guy that took Marvel from "we're definitely going to have to sell the company in the near future" to "we're fine", so having that lead to selling the company anyway must not have felt like a triumph.

Was Marvel put up for sale on the market or did Disney approach them about an acquisition? Were there other offers competing with the Disney one? I read Disney War earlier this year and it made me curious about whether the acquisition would've gone through at all if Michael Eisner had still been in charge. Probably would've been better if it hadn't when you read about how badly ABC ended up being mismanaged after all the hassle they went through to buy it.

Disney saw how lucrative the MCU was going to be, that's what made them pull the trigger. Hilariously one of the guys who brokered the sale was the same guy who brought the option of buying Marvel to Disney back in 1996 or so when they could have had Marvel for pennies compared to the $4 billion they dropped. CzarChasm posted:How far can DC/Marvel borrow a character without permission? I know having Captain America show up in the middle of a Superman comic in a full page spread declaring his love of buttsex would be way off the mark and grounds for legal action (hurting the brand, copyright infringment, etc.). As far as I know DC and Marvel love love love doing homages about each others characters. I haven't read Avengers myself but I understand that one of the planets that was about to be destroyed had characters that shared similarities with DC's characters, and next year the Justice League is going up against the Extremists who are basically Marvel villains in everything but name.

Yeah, most of them have written or drawn for both companies at one time or another, some are writing/drawing for both at the same time (although exclusive contracts seem pretty popular currently).

He's Superman, and there's a whole Justice League equivalent to go along with him: Blur, Doctor Spectrum, Amphibian, Nighthawk and Power Princess. You can probably guess who is supposed to be who in that line up.

When I was a kid I would sometimes spend literal hours in the Toys R Us that was on the walk home from my school. At one point they used to have comics near the back, but they were usually pretty old. Like years old, because Inferno had been over for quite a while after I started reading comics. I was able to read the last three issues of this Avengers arc and it made no loving sense to me.

Sinners Sandwich posted:Whats the most grusome way Batman has ever been dipicted of dying? I'm not talking about Darksied turning him into a smoldering skeleton, I'm talking about Flash getting his legs severed in Obsidean Age Well, in Emperor Joker (when Joker steals the powers of Mr. Mixyspitlyk), he's been killed and resurrected thousands of times, over and over again in a myriad of ways. Joker has absolute power, really hates Batman, and even after all those ways of killing him, never gets bored with new, inventive ways to do it. Each time he's brought back he's forced to remember every single death previously. This fucks him up so bad that even at the end of the story he's rendered basically catatonic. Superman strikes a deal with Mixy where he gets to absorb all his memories and pain because that's just the kind of guy he is So that gets my vote. To be fair though, I don't think any of them are depicted on page. Mostly it's just explained that Joker has been doing this for a long time. Here's a cartoony interpretation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xjKwdLAucw. Imagine this X 1000 and you might have the idea. CzarChasm fucked around with this message at 22:08 on Dec 4, 2016 |

The fight to the death between Joker and Batman in Endgame was ridiculously brutal. From memory, Batman got a grin carved into his back, acid melting his face and a playing card in the eye. I'm fascinated by all the different bad things there. The story employs a weird reincarnation mysticism it doesn't explore, it relies on a quotation to deliver its apparent message, and ultimately it seems to blame the wrong people for Batman being trapped in a cyclical narrative.
