I think it's worse now, because I want to say Joe Quesada(?) was asked about doing a DC/Marvel Crossover and he basically said "DC Sucks", and DC came back with "DC will not play nice with Marvel as long as Quesada is in charge". I mean, that's kind of one specific example, but it seems pretty petty on both sides.

That was Bill Jemas. Joe just had to stand there and deal with Bill making an embarassment out of himself and Marvel. When he was ousted the "AOL Comics" stuff died down quite a bit.

He's basically the guy that took Marvel from "we're definitely going to have to sell the company in the near future" to "we're fine", so having that lead to selling the company anyway must not have felt like a triumph.

Was Marvel put up for sale on the market or did Disney approach them about an acquisition? Were there other offers competing with the Disney one?

I read Disney War earlier this year and it made me curious about whether the acquisition would've gone through at all if Michael Eisner had still been in charge. Probably would've been better if it hadn't when you read about how badly ABC ended up being mismanaged after all the hassle they went through to buy it.

Disney saw how lucrative the MCU was going to be, that's what made them pull the trigger. Hilariously one of the guys who brokered the sale was the same guy who brought the option of buying Marvel to Disney back in 1996 or so when they could have had Marvel for pennies compared to the $4 billion they dropped.

How far can DC/Marvel borrow a character without permission? I know having Captain America show up in the middle of a Superman comic in a full page spread declaring his love of buttsex would be way off the mark and grounds for legal action (hurting the brand, copyright infringment, etc.).

But could Dr. Strange take a peek through the multiverse in one of those big art pages, where a dozen different little windows show alternate realities, and have one of them show The Trinity? Maybe not front and center, but clearly enough that you can tell that it's Superman et al and not Hyperion and friends. They don't say anything, but you know it's them.

Or could you do it with some second stringer like Green Arrow or Aquaman or Robin? Someone who is maybe not pretty much the go to icon for "Superhero".

Or is it way too risky to even bother with, especially today with the bad blood between companies? I know there was a Thor comic years ago, when he literally bumped into unnamed Clark Kent. But that was a long time ago.

As far as I know DC and Marvel love love love doing homages about each others characters. I haven't read Avengers myself but I understand that one of the planets that was about to be destroyed had characters that shared similarities with DC's characters, and next year the Justice League is going up against the Extremists who are basically Marvel villains in everything but name.

Yeah, most of them have written or drawn for both companies at one time or another, some are writing/drawing for both at the same time (although exclusive contracts seem pretty popular currently).

It's not like EiC would have any say in the matter.

I very much doubt that the comic publishing part of Marvel is what Disney was interested in, anyway. I would say the sale has more to do with what Kevin Feige or whoever was behind all the Marvel Studios related decisions is what attracted Disney.

The incredibly long pelvis is from the early 80s, so I'm guessing the costume was designed in the mid-90s.

That's actually the "Hyperion and friends" I spoke of before (Unless I'm getting my OC DO NOT STEAL characters mixed up). He's Superman, and there's a whole Justice League equivalent to go along with him: Blur, Doctor Spectrum, Amphibian, Nighthawk and Power Princess. You can probably guess who is supposed to be who in that line up.

It wasn't Hyperion or the Sentry, it was a guy called Sun God. Doc Spectrum was the only Squadron member of that group(The Great Society). The rest were new analogues

It's also worth noting that The Cyborg, who played a pivotal role in the Death of Superman, has his origin in a Reed Richards/Fantastic Four spoof.

I was able to read the last three issues of this Avengers arc and it made no loving sense to me.

Well, in Emperor Joker (when Joker steals the powers of Mr. Mixyspitlyk), he's been killed and resurrected thousands of times, over and over again in a myriad of ways. Joker has absolute power, really hates Batman, and even after all those ways of killing him, never gets bored with new, inventive ways to do it. Each time he's brought back he's forced to remember every single death previously. This fucks him up so bad that even at the end of the story he's rendered basically catatonic. Superman strikes a deal with Mixy where he gets to absorb all his memories and pain because that's just the kind of guy he is So that gets my vote.

To be fair though, I don't think any of them are depicted on page. Mostly it's just explained that Joker has been doing this for a long time. Here's a cartoony interpretation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xjKwdLAucw. Imagine this X 1000 and you might have the idea.

The fight to the death between Joker and Batman in Endgame was ridiculously brutal.
From memory, Batman got a grin carved into his back, acid melting his face and a playing card in the eye.
Then they ended up next to each other in a heart-shaped pool of blood :)

I'm fascinated by all the different bad things there. The story employs a weird reincarnation mysticism it doesn't explore, it relies on a quotation to deliver its apparent message, and ultimately it seems to blame the wrong people for Batman being trapped in a cyclical narrative.
